Gencom Founder and Principal Karim Alibhai recently joined FIU Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management’s new Hospitality Real Estate Advisory Board alongside other leading #SouthFlorida real estate leaders. The board is focused on enhancing the practical relevancy of the Chaplin School's real estate curriculum and expanding experiential learning opportunities for students through internships, mentoring and direct engagement with industry leaders. According to the official release, real estate comprises the largest portion of most hospitality investments. In addition, its operations-intensive nature positions it among the most complex of all types of commercial real estate. These two factors, together with ever greater demand for experience-based value creation across all commercial property sectors, are expected to drive strong demand for hospitality-specific real estate expertise well into the future. Property Investment Consultant | Student Ambassador | Property Marketing Specialist | Director of Accounting
As a second-year student at Deakin University, currently pursuing a double degree in Bachelor of Property & Real Estate and Bachelor of Commerce, my journey in navigating the real estate landscape of Australia has been a profound learning experience, filled with challenges, triumphs, and invaluable lessons. From the outset, I recognized that breaking into the real estate industry as an international student would not be without its obstacles. Visa limitations, cultural adjustments, and the unfamiliar intricacies of local hiring processes all presented themselves as formidable barriers to overcome. However, rather than being deterred by these challenges, I've embraced them as opportunities for personal and professional growth. In parallel with my academic endeavors, I've actively sought out opportunities to gain practical experience and enhance my skill set. The completion of a Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice stands as a testament to my dedication to mastering the theoretical foundations of real estate and applying them in real-world contexts. This blend of academic learning and practical application has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the industry and a readiness to tackle its complexities head-on. Despite the strides I've made, I'm acutely aware of the need for greater inclusivity and flexibility within the hiring practices of real estate companies in Melbourne. For international students like myself, the path to securing a foothold in the industry can often feel like scaling a mountain, with each step forward met by new obstacles and uncertainties. However, I remain steadfast in my commitment to pursuing my passion for real estate and am open to exploring any opportunities that may come my way, including internships. I firmly believe that internships offer invaluable learning experiences and serve as a vital bridge between academic study and professional practice. I'm eager to immerse myself in the dynamic environment of Melbourne's real estate market, eager to contribute my skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm to the field. In advocating for greater support and inclusivity within the industry, I envision a future where every aspiring professional, regardless of background, is afforded a fair and equal opportunity to succeed. As I continue on my journey, I remain optimistic about the possibilities that lie ahead and committed to making a positive impact within the real estate community. Together, let us strive to create a future where talent knows no borders and opportunity is extended to all who dare to pursue their dreams in the vibrant and dynamic world of real estate. #RealEstateAustralia #InternationalStudents #DiversityInRealEstate #RealEstateInternship #MelbournePropertyMarket #InclusiveHiring
