Sure, this is a groovy number, but some things are more important. The Pelvis died in 1977; LeAnn was born in 1982. Wonder how it felt singing a duet with a dead man? Since Elvis recorded his version in 19-whatever, and the artists on this album their versions in 2008, we can say we have little respect for time. We are in such a hurry to race over the Earth while driving to work and, possibly, listening to this song on the way, which shows we have zero respect for place. Our bridges show we have an utter disregard for anyone's borders, even Nature's. The compilation on this album clearly shows we have no respect for death either. If that's true, why respect anything? Why not steal habitats from predators? Why not exploit resources and pollute the environment with plastic and atomic waste? Why respect anyone's wishes, dreams, borders, territory, virginity, opinions, freedoms, or one's own bodies, thoughts, and feelings? Why respect life?* Although it may sound like it, I am not preaching or pointing fingers, as proven by the fact that I'm guilty myself of many of these crimes–for crimes they are. I'm only trying to turn our attention to things we probably should have investigated long, long, long ago. The release date will be announced as soon as it is back from mastering! Upon finishing that, I went straight back to work on MEDITATIONS VOL. II, which is in the final stages of creation. I am very excited and awash with joy to be able to report that Pete Parada, formerly of The Offspring and now of The Defiant, has contributed drums to a number of songs on the project… AND THEY ARE NAPALM! Speaking of Pete, and The Defiant, they just released their debut LP. IF WE'RE REALLY BEING HONEST is that other most rare and mythical of things, AN ACTUAL ALBUM that TELLS A STORY and takes the listener on a JOURNEY.... It brought to mind flashes of tons of immortal music I love, The Clash, The Jam, Sham 69, Pogues, Squeeze, and contains a gang of instant classics that are gonna require extended versions for people to bellow along to at live shows. Hello all, I know I haven't been as active on LinkedIn in 2023 as in past years. A few reasons for that which I don't need to go into, but before 2023 passes into history I thought I should let all my connections know that I'm still around, doing well. The two roles I have are interesting and rewarding. They're both teaching me some new things (e.g. the concept of 'access and flow' in the hospital system) and allowing me to apply skills built up over my decades in the markets and in complex organisations (e.g. the importance of strong investment process). It's been great to see bond yields rise to decent levels once again - something that I've longed to see for quite a while now. Disappointing that it's taken an outbreak of inflation that central banks would have seen coming if they'd not forgotten monetary economics 1.01 to push yields up, but when the Australian 10 year hit 5% a few weeks ago I jumped on it in my personal investments. (At 4% I'm not so keen, but believe that inflation is heading back into the RBA's target range in 2024 and thus even at 4% there's satisfactory long term value for a default-risk free asset like the Aussie 10 year.) Anyway, I didn't come here to say much about market views or the like. More just to wish all my professional contacts a happy Christmas (not assuming you're all Christians, but whatever you believe I still hope you have a happy time of year that we call Christmas). And a very good New Year. Here's a little present. The video is of an Australian duo, the brothers Smallbone, who are the band For King and Country. They've got quite a story about how they became the global superstars in Christian music that they are today, but this performance is probably the main reason they came to worldwide attention a few years back. They've turned one of the Christmas songs that regularly rates as the dullest into a dynamic, energetic, exciting celebration of the season.
