We know young people want more interactions and experiences with employers but that they don’t always know where to start. Too few young people get access to work experience but for those that are offered work experience a significant number do not accept because: 1️⃣ they have no idea what experience they could do, what’s on offer and who is offering it 2️⃣ they don’t know if they’ll like it 3️⃣ they don’t feel ready, they’ve no idea what’s expected or what will happen It’s why these virtual tasters are much needed and an excellent tool to compliment in person activities and build confidence and knowledge! As part of National Careers Week, we are pleased to announce the launch of our latest Virtual Work Experience for the Local Government Association 🎉 This Virtual Work Experience explores the careers and opportunities within local government through a series of videos combined with an interactive workbook. The 2023 Youth Voice Census told us that less than 30% of young people received work experience in secondary school. Lack of work experience has featured as one of young people’s biggest barriers to work in all 6 years of the Youth Voice Census data. This is why we create our Virtual Work Experience guides. Students are guided through a series of activities hosted by industry, covering a range of different resource-related disciplines. Our aim is to help students fully comprehend the opportunities the resource sector offers and the career options available to get them there! About the role: Volunteers will be split into two categories: industry professionals and guide volunteers. Industry professionals are responsible for facilitating an interactive, hands-on activity for student groups, showcasing a particular career, profession, or trade in an ATAR or VET stream. Guide volunteers will be assigned a group of Year 10 students for the day and will accompany them to each activity, ensuring they are in the right place at the right time. You'll have the opportunity to share your experiences in the mining sector with your group and help inspire them about the possibilities of a career in mining! Event days run approximately from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., please note, you do not have to be available for all 3 days to participate!
