West battlegroup destroys two Ukrainian drones, hit over 170 Ukrainian army’s facilities The battlegroup’s spokesman Ivan Bigma said that a Gvozdika self-propelled system, nine mortar squads, two Furiya fixed-wing type unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed MOSCOW, April 23/ The units of Russia’s West battlegroup have hit over 170 facilities of the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as destroyed two fixed-wing drones of the enemy, the battlegroup’s spokesman Ivan Bigma told TASS. "Artillery units of the battlegroup inflicted fire damage on over 170 facilities of the Ukrainian armed forces. A Gvozdika self-propelled system and nine mortar squads were destroyed by artillery units in a counterbattery fight. The battlegroup’s air defense systems eliminated two Furiya fixed-wing type unmanned aerial vehicles," he said. If you want to know what will defeat a threat, the answer is often a modified version of the threat itself. Fighter planes are designed to neutralize fighter planes, missiles shoot down missiles and hypersonic weapons will shoot down hypersonic weapons. Russia has put a different spin on this with its counter-drone ground-based vehicle. The  Rebovets WALL-E (I wonder if Russia is provoking The Walt Disney Company as well) is a ground-based drone with electronic warfare equipment, including the interestingly named "Fumigator", capable of disabling first-person view (FPV) drones. Because it's highly mobile and can traverse different types of terrain, it can go where the FPV drone action is and set up in an optimal geometry. We must deploy next-gen technologies at the speed and scale required by the evolution of the drone threat. "AI drones will put our forces at risk, from ships to infantry. As the war approaches its third year, Russia is on the offensive, backed by an economy on a war footing. Ukraine, meanwhile, is short on ammunition as additional aid from its main backer, the U.S., remains blocked in Congress. With artillery shells running low, Ukrainian troops on the front lines are improvising and using explosive drones to try to hold the Russians back.   “We’re increasingly using FPV drones because we have a lack of shells,” said Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s minister of digital transformation. The Bayraktar Kızılelma (Red Apple) is a single-engine, low-observable, carrier-capable, jet-powered unmanned combat aerial vehicle, currently in development by Turkish defense company Baykar. The aircraft is being developed as part of Project MIUS. The initial Bayraktar Kızılelma (Kızılelma-A) is subsonic. Planned variants (Kızılelma-B and Kızılelma-C) are intended to be supersonic, the latter having a twin-engined configuration. It is one of the two Turkish jet-powered stealth UCAVs along with the TAI Anka-3. Baykar CTO Selçuk Bayraktar had initially announced that the Kızılelma was expected to make its maiden flight in 2023, adding that a jet-powered UCAV was a "12-year-long dream". The Kızılelma was able to complete its first flight ahead of the expected date, in December 2022.
