Due to the mandatory waiting period between full blood donations (around 12 weeks) I was unable to contribute for this months blood drive, however instead I donated plasma (waiting period is around 2 weeks), as the red blood cells is filtered back in and the recovery time is a lot less as a result! So why donate plasma? * When you donate plasma, you're also donating unique antibodies. Your plasma can be mixed with plasma from other people to create a super army of lifesaving germ-fighters. This superweapon can help people with immune deficiencies. *Brain Disorders can happen when our immune system malfunctions. Thankfully, scientists have put their heads together and developed intravenous immunoglobulin (IVig), a mixture of antibodies that can help make hostile immune systems less of a headache. *So you’ve accidentally caught yourself on a rusty fence? An intramuscular injection of Tetanus Immunoglobulin-VF normally does the trick, helping fight tetanus before it takes hold. *For those who can’t be vaccinated against measles, plasma can save the day. It’s used to make a medication called normal human immunoglobulin (NHIG), which can provide temporary protection. *after chemotherapy, some cancer patients will need to have their bone marrow replaced, and some are at particular risk of very severe infections during their transplant due to their weakened immune systems. The antibodies within plasma can help prevent infections during bone marrow transplants. *Haemophilia affects your blood's ability to clot. Plasma can be used to make products that can replace missing clotting factors, helping people with haemophilia live a relatively normal life. and a whole lot more which you can read about: https://lnkd.in/gxrQHaEx.
Nobody knows the value of blood donations better than the countless people in Australia who rely on them. In fact, 1 in 3 will need donated blood in their lifetime. This is why I am taking part in the Commonwealth Bank Blood Drive from 1 August to 31 August. I am a regular donator of blood, plasma, as well as being on the Bone Marrow Donor Registry. As outlined on the Red Cross website: "Over 110,000 Australians (and millions more overseas!) are living with blood cancer. For some, a transplant from a donor with closely matched blood stem cells is their only possibility of a cure. By joining the donor registry, you could be someone’s perfect match and their best hope of survival. That’s a powerful thing!" At CBA we’re taking part through Australian Red Cross Lifeblood’s group donation program, Lifeblood Teams. And our Commonwealth Bank Lifeblood Team will be coming together to be part of something bigger. Something for the community. Something that builds a brighter future for all. Some donation centres still have some awesome bandages from celebrating NAIDOC week in July. The very fashionable bandage is designed by Archibald Prize winner and Artist Blak Douglas. I would love to hear from anyone who manages to get one of these at their next donation! - https://lnkd.in/gXZxHhAF - https://lnkd.in/gGP6JU7B #CBAisTHEBloodBank #lifebloodau #Commbanklife

Countdown to Impact: 5 Days Left in the April Head and Neck Cancer Alliance Move-a-thon 🏃♀️🙏 As the sun sets on this pivotal month, our shared journey of compassion and support takes on a more urgent pace. There are just 5 days left to contribute to a cause that’s much more than a statistic; it's a lifeline for those battling head and neck cancer. I set out with an ambition – a concise, yet significant goal of raising $150 through the Move-a-thon. This sum symbolizes hope – the equivalent of a night at a hotel for a travelling patient or easing the burden covering some essentials on treatment day. Each donation is a beacon of comfort, providing essentials like a gas card, parking, lunch, and sometimes the priceless gift of child care. While the road ahead is paved with possibility, the present moment reflects a challenging truth. I currently stand at 83% of my fundraising target. "The distance between where we are and where we aspire to be is measured not in miles but in moments of generosity." I humbly ask you to consider the value of your daily coffee – could it instead fund a gesture of immense value? A few dollars could mean the world to someone enduring the most challenging fight of their life. Together, we can fill these last few days with action and purpose. Let's rally to offer more than just relief; let’s provide a sanctuary of support for at least one patient in need. To donate, simply click on the link https://lnkd.in/e_d95i2c Your contribution, no matter the size, will weave into the tapestry of someone’s survival story. Let's make these remaining days count! Thank you for standing with me, for them. #HeadAndNeckCancer #HNCA #Moveathon #Support #Donate #CancerCare #MakeADifference

Savills IOW Charity Cycle Update With less than three weeks until our cycle, I just wanted to give you an update on the team's training and what this means to Macmillan Cancer Support, one of the charities we are specifically riding for and close to my heart. The team are training hard, some more than others, and we want to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Over the past year, the team has raised £8,828 for Macmillan Cancer Support - this incredible total would pay for: 1. A Macmillan nurse for over 7 weeks, providing essential practical, medical, and emotional support for people living with cancer and their loved ones. 2. 44 Macmillan grants for people living with cancer to help some of the costs that can come with a cancer diagnosis, such as having to take time off work or travelling to and from hospital appointments. 3. 420 calls to the Macmillan support line. Our new target for the cycle of £2,500 could pay for an additional 12.5 Macmillan Grants for people living with cancer. If anyone wishes to donate towards this great cause, it would be greatly appreciated, however I fully understand the challenges for everyone at the moment and therefore thank you for just reading this post. https://lnkd.in/ehxBBT5u We're looking forward to the big day and will be sure to keep you all updated in due course. #savills #projectmanagement #lopm #bpc

Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer | Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer | Birmingham based supporting those who are diagnosed with breast cancer with their mental well- being with non medical support here in the Midlands.
We are truly overwhelmed with the support and very kind donation by Solihull Round Table, donating £5000 towards our Hug in a Bag initiative. The Hug-in-a-Bag initiative was introduced by Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer (LFBC) as a way of providing “common sense” items – such as a water bottle, moisturiser and a book – for patients attending their first chemotherapy treatment session given out to them by nurses. The bags also contain thoughtful items including a blanket and nail varnish, as body temperature and nail discolouration are just two of the changes that can occur due to cancer treatment. A Local charity, helping local people. Hi allI have been involved in platform based products a few years now as an architect, #engineeringmanager, and more recently #productmanagerjobs . Platform products are those that connect producers and consumers of services, removing the need for them to manage relatively complex infrastructure and tooling set up and operation. I like to learn about platform products, and aee how can they change society for good. One of my favourite platform products is JustGiving. This platform takes it to next level connecting charities with supporters that are keen to take action to raise donations for the charity, and supporters of the supporters who are keen to donate. And all of this is done with a few clicks, with a user friendly interface. As an example, Cancer Research UK organised a walk last Friday to raise funding. I decided to support by walking. From my mobile in less than one minute I was inscribed and had a personalised page to ask my network to donate some cash. I don't have to manage any of the payments and transfers. No penny goes to my hands. I focus on the walk.My network can donate in a few seconds knowing the money goes to the charity. Give it a try here and experience the JustGiving user experience for yourself. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s ground breaking work. Donate to my Giving Page today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. https://lnkd.in/eDabERPr you can also organise your own fundraising event. #JustGiving is a great product, using #platform principles to make a difference to its users, and the causes they support. Inspiring!
