Following up on my recent post in which l highlighted the importance of accessibility in the "Weight Loss Drug Olympics". Novo Nordisk is making some strategic shifts to keep up with the intense competition from Eli Lilly. They’re expanding access to their weight loss drugs through Medicaid, which should help them reach a wider audience and prevent losing the market share to Eli Lilly. But this strategy comes with a trade-off!!!. By increasing accessibly they might lose some of the pricing power they’ve had, which could hit their profits. So, to counterbalance this, Novo Nordisk can ramp up production and capitalize on their production capacity. By focusing on both accessibility and production,  the company can stay competitive in this rapidly changing market.

In a challenging environment, such as an aging population and a growing burden of chronic diseases, family ownership allows for a longer-term approach, rather than focusing on short-term gains. “It is easy to cut R&D, but with our transgenerational view, we choose to do the right things now within the company for the future.” In response to a question on how to prepare for being a board member in family businesses, Dr. Duschmalé expressed appreciation for a less predefined process. It gave him flexibility to approach responsibilities in various ways, especially considering his background as a chemist. Without this freedom, he might have felt constrained by the family legacy. “Be honest, be humble, and be yourself.” With this philosophy, Dr. Duschmalé’s insights illuminate the essence of serving as a board member across diverse governance environments. #imdimpact #highperformanceboards #imdboardcenter #corporategovernance #familybusiness

Last week, USP welcomed a delegation of senior executives and leaders from Mexico's Asociación Mexicana de Laboratorios Farmacéuticos (AMELAF) in Rockville, MD. This meeting marks an important milestone in USP's ongoing engagement with industry leaders in Mexico, building upon AMELAF joining USP as a Convention member last year. The highlight of the meeting was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between AMELAF and USP, starting a new chapter of collaboration. • USP and AMELAF will establish a consistent channel for sharing vital insights on emerging quality challenges and best practices in effectively applying quality standards. • The organizations will collaborate on targeted training programs and knowledge-sharing activities aimed at strengthening quality assurance systems and standard-setting. • We will work together to advance long-term strategies promoting sustainable access to quality-assured medicines. By combining USP and AMELAF's expertise in standards-setting, shared goals, and local and global networks, the collaboration aims to accelerate progress toward delivering quality medicines to patients in Mexico and globally.
