Nurses’ critical role in health care is undisputed as they provide compassionate care and support to patients. Patients and families spend ample time with nurses, allowing for a genuine, trusting relationship to be formed. According to Gallup’s annual Honesty & Ethics poll of 23 professions across the United States, nursing remains the most trusted profession. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that nurses play an important role in philanthropy. The compassionate care they provide undoubtedly sparks gratitude in patients and families, unleashing their desire to express thanks by sharing stories and even making a gift. When nurses grasp their role in receiving patient gratitude and assisting patients in expressing it meaningfully, they become one of philanthropy’s most valuable allies for transformative impact. Check out the latest piece from Accordant's Heather Wiley Starankovic, CFRE, CAP, and Erin M. Stitzel, FAHP, on how to partner with nurses to create transformative impact for your philanthropy program: https://ow.ly/R0iT50RB8z7 #healthcare #philanthropy #nationalnursesweek #nursesmakethedifference

We'll be unfolding this series over the next four weeks, tackling everything from #access and #staffing to possible #technology solutions and potential payment reforms that could put rural #nursinghomes on more solid footing. What else should be part of this critical conversation? #longtermcare #ruralhealth #skillednursing #seniors
The leader of the nation’s largest nonprofit #skillednursing provider says access to post-acute and long-term care is at a ‘tipping point’ in rural America. Like many of its skilled nursing neighbors in the Cornhusker State, Good Samaritan Society-Bloomfield is teetering between fulfilling its vital community role with special small-town flourishes and succumbing to the financial pressures that come with operating in that same small-town setting. #ruralnursinghomes #longtermcare #staffing Nate Schema, Mark Parkinson, Robyn Stone, Madison Ternus, Kierstin Reed, MSW, MPA, Larry Lester https://lnkd.in/gRpn-_sv

A #hospice nurse shares a very interesting discussion on the process of #activelydying. #EndOfLifePlanning is a critical part of living... Not long ago, I had lunch with the CEO of a large non-profit hospice company who shared shocking statistics about the brevity of most hospice engagements (an average of weeks, not months) precisely because neither families nor the health system want to discuss death. This dramatically impacts the quality of life for the older adult and their family. Take control and define (and discuss) how you want to live and die. Fortunately, many companies, books, and websites are now focusing on supporting these discussions. https://lnkd.in/gxx3ZA4k #patientchoice #familycaregiving #endoflife

Happy Wednesday Everyone! This past weekend, I had the opportunity to discuss my nursing story with the hopes of making a lasting impact. I find, that every time I speak of the past, new emotions come up. Extremely raw and fresh emotions. At the start of my career, I did not want to process my grief. I felt I was weak for my sadness, and believed that I would be viewed lesser for having "mundane" emotions in a profession built on strength and selflessness. What I have now learned is that to feel is a gift. When you allow yourself to feel your difficult emotions, this is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. Selflessness does not mean ignoring the care for yourself, but including yourself in the same kindness and compassion you gift others. For the next month, leading into Nurses Week, I will be fundraising to support the Operation Happy Nurse community. A place and group of people that allow me to feel all my emotions without fear of retribution and judgement. Operation Happy Nurse provides a free, online community for nurses, offering a wide range of resources designed to promote wellness and foster a supportive network. From discussion boards to book clubs, nutritional support to educational blogs, guided meditations, and beyond, the OHN platform is a safe space for nurses to find solace, guidance, and camaraderie. All funds raised will go toward: - Continuing development on the OHN mobile application, making stress relief and community more accessible to the nursing profession. - Expanding free, in-person wellness events for healthcare workers. Here's how your support can make a difference: - For every $50 donation, OHN can provide the free community mobile application to one nurse or student nurse. - For every $200 donation, OHN can offer a free in-person event to one healthcare worker. Operation Happy Nurse has a goal of raising $30,000 throughout this next month. We have 20 incredible fundraisers who aim to participate in making this goal a reality. Please consider helping me reach my personal goal of raising $2,000 toward the fundraising efforts. Your generosity will make a tangible difference in the lives of those who dedicate themselves to caring for others. Donate today: https://lnkd.in/edXjdYHf
