Have you seen the 2024 Out of Reach report? It shows that decent rental housing is too expensive in Pennsylvania. This year’s Housing Wage proves that housing costs are far too high for low-wage workers to afford. The struggle to find affordable housing is all too real for the lowest-income people. #OOR24 http://nlihc.org/oor

Eviction measures could include a “three strikes and you’re out” as well as controversial “British homes for British workers”. Housing minister Lee Rowley says: “If you abuse the system, making peoples’ lives a misery or actively work against our British values, you are making a choice – such choices will have consequences and our proposals seek to stop such people getting a social home. The message is clear: play by the rules, pay in and we will support you. If you choose not to, this country is not going to be a soft touch.” The proposed reforms include new UK and local connection tests to determine social housing eligibility, with applicants required to demonstrate a connection to the UK for at least 10 years and their local area for at least two years. High-earners could be banned from renting council houses. Here's how it will affect public sector workers. 👇 At the moment, there is a housing crisis: | Unsafe living standards | Housing shortage | High costs Mr. Gove, the housing secretary, is consulting a new law, Imposing a nationwide salary threshold for new social housing tenants. Why? The latest figures show that 186K social households have an income exceeding £50K, Meaning poorer people in much greater need, are still on the waiting list. However, this will not affect existing tenants on high-salaries, and people would not be evicted if they received a payrise that exceeded them above the threshold. How do you think this will affect public-sector workers? Start a discussion in the comments 💬 #PublicSector #SocialHousing #HousingAssociation #HousingCrisis

You are worth the INVESTMENT.
National Low-Income Housing Coalition reports that Oklahoma residents must make $19.91/hour on average to afford rent on a Fair Market 2BDRM house. That means those making minimum wage must put in 110 hours, the equivalent of holding 2.7 jobs, to support rent alone. Make the #CostOfHome something we can all afford. Support #affordablehomeownership because everyone deserves a decent place to live. See the full report >> https://bit.ly/4eMKguY

What if you had to work 85 hours a week to be able to afford rent for a two-bedroom apartment? That’s the situation for workers earning minimum wage in Connecticut. The latest report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition (link in comments) shows a massive divide between what kind of wages are needed to afford modest housing and what people actually make. The issue is even more staggering if you consider all the extra time and hassle the affordable housing application process requires from residents – there isn’t enough time in the week. More capacity and a more streamlined process aren’t nice-to-haves – they’re critical. Great coverage by Daniel Figueroa IV in CT Insider. #affordablehousing #affordabilitycrisis #MinimumWage #NLIHC

What happens now in the Private Rented Sector? I think it’s safe to say we will see some form of the Renters Reform Bill resurface fairly soon but what it will look like is yet to be seen. All we can do at this point is wait to hear exactly what the Labour Government will propose and how this is going to effect landlords. As always I will be keeping a close eye 👀 on events. Currently sat with the news on at the side of me while working. #landlords #privaterentedsector #housing #rentersreformbill

Angela Rayner has revealed more about the Labour Party (UK)'s housebuilding plans, and we think it fails to address the reality of what England needs: all new housing to be accessible to everyone. Accessibility of new homes should be a crucial aspect of development in England. It’s needed to meet the demand from our ageing population and increased rates of disability. What are your views on Labour's housebuilding plans? https://lnkd.in/dMAzu5a2 #UKHousing #SocialHousing #InclusiveDesign

Massachusetts is now the 2nd most expensive housing market in the nation. To afford a 2BR apartment without burden, you'd need to make almost $45/hour, compared to the state minimum wage of $15. It's #FaceTheFactsFriday again! We're getting real about the realities of housing costs in Fort Worth and the state of Texas. According to data from the National Low Income Housing Coalition, full-time workers (40 hrs/week) would need to make around 3.25 to 4 times the minimum wage to afford a one- and two-bedroom rental in our area. In 2023, this is what it takes for our neighbors to live in safe and decent housing. In order to solve these inequities, we have to #FaceTheFacts. You can read more about this data in NLIHC's 2023 Out of Reach Report available here: https://lnkd.in/gJpR_Px4
