Local business owners and hiring managers can participate #DisabilityPrideMonth by improving their disability inclusive hiring practices. Guess what, we can help!! All it takes is the willingness to have a conversation with us.
#DisabilityPrideMonth takes place every year in July. This is a time to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. It’s a time to show what disability pride means and what people with disabilities are proud of. Why is this celebration so important? Because it challenges the outdated stereotypes and stigma that too often surround disabilities. Disability Pride Month reminds us that disability is not something to be ashamed of but rather a vital part of our rich human tapestry. By promoting disability pride, we hope to create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued—no matter their abilities. We want to break down barriers, foster understanding, and build a society that embraces and supports every individual, regardless of their differences. National Disability Independence Day, celebrated annually on July 26, commemorates passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the U.S. law prohibiting discrimination against those with disabilities. This year, we celebrate its theme, Advancing #Access and #Equity, and suggest we all wear the official color, orange, on July 26 to symbolize energy and positivity, and to help amplify the important message on this day. 💡What does disability look like to you? 👀 It’s not always obvious that someone has a disability, from learning difficulties to speech impediments, MS, anxiety, visual impairments and much much more. So how can we possibly design a future for a whole community we don’t even think about yet alone being able to understand how they experience our tech and how it impacts thier #mobility journey? Let’s open up a healthy dialogue to learn from each other and do better. Build better. Plan better. Design better. And ultimately be better than yesterday. Do you have any organisations we should engage with or insights to consider, from UX to software coding. Let’s go all in!
Join us in celebrating National Disability Independence Day! 🌟 Let's remember that not all disabilities are visible, and it's crucial to gather insights from diverse groups as we build accessible transportation solutions. At Cubic, we're committed to driving progress and inclusivity with this through our partnership with McMaster University. 💙 Find out more here: https://bit.ly/3gaun4r #DisabilityIndependenceDay #AccessibilityMatters #CubicTransportationSystems
