This is a very welcome and long-awaited national approach to climate adaptation and resilience. The framework specifically calls for emergency management and preparedness to be better engaged with climate hazards and considerations.

The White House as released a fact sheet on the Fifth National Climate Assessment. It has also announced more than $6 Billion to strengthen climate resilience across the country. The report covers the following overview summary from CNN (link https://lnkd.in/dWiWee3F): * No place in the US is safe from the climate crisis * It’s easier to pinpoint which disasters were made worse by climate change * All regions are feeling climate change, but some more severely * Climate change is exacting a massive economic toll * The US is cutting planet-warming pollution, but not nearly fast enough * Water – too much and not enough – is a huge problem for the US Maybe it is time for politicians to be honest to their constituents and stop acting like ideological ostriches. Sticking your head in the sand is not going to make climate change (or what ever you prefer to call it) go away. It is ironic that many of the states with the biggest climate change politician deniers are those at most risk. These plans are part of a broader effort to build a climate-resilient nation through the National Climate Resilience Framework, backed by substantial investments in climate adaptation and resilience. Key actions outlined in the plans include: Building climate resilience in facilities: Retrofitting and upgrading federal buildings to withstand climate hazards and ensuring essential backup systems. Fostering a climate-ready workforce: Implementing protocols to safeguard federal employees' well-being and ensure continuity of operations amid climate-related hazards. Developing climate-resilient supply chains: Assessing mission-critical supply chains, diversifying suppliers, and encouraging climate-smart sourcing to minimize disruptions. Managing lands and waters for climate adaptation and resilience: Protecting and conserving federal lands and waters to support species and enhance community well-being in a changing climate. Applying climate data and tools to decision-making: Leveraging data and tools to understand climate risks and inform investments. Developing climate-informed policies and programs: Incorporating climate impacts and adaptation actions into federal policies and guidance. Integrating climate resilience into external funding opportunities: Encouraging the consideration of climate impacts on federally supported projects and promoting climate resilience through grants and infrastructure investments.
