Have you done a Farm Human Audit? I was chatting with a friend/colleague/farmer this week, reflecting on their journey over the past 18 months. They've sold their farm, and moved onto new adventures. We agreed that because they'd done a Farm Human Audit it meant that when an 'unexpected' offer turned-up 12-months ago, they were able to take it and move quickly. They reflected that without being confident in themselves, the opportunity for capital gain may have moved past them. I'd never thought about it as a Human Audit before. But it makes sense. In farming we audit our finances, and our production. We have machinery replacement schedules, and animal breeding plans. But do we have the same plan for US? Yet without us . . . . . we don't have a business. What's a Human Audit It's one of the first things I do when I start working with you - we look at your personal resilience, identify you values, and set some personal goals (as an individual and for the whole family). Every decision we make says something about who we are. For some of us, decision-making is about sifting through massive amounts of information and wading through the alternatives. For others, it’s about brainstorming possibilities and daring to go out on a limb with the ‘what ifs.’ Our culture often steers us clear of ‘what iffing’ often righting it off as a lost cause or a path to doubt and insecurity. But I love ‘what iffing’ ! What if ‘what iffing’ lead to growth … or fun … or prosperity …. or greater connection? This year I’ve seen and experienced so many ag innovations that surely grew from the seeds of ‘what if’ …. from autonomous technologies to waste reduction processes, from safety equipment to animal health products, and drought resilience to traceability and labelling …. and I am continually inspired by visionaries in ag who keep finding new ways of doing things. What if each of us took the risk to try something new? What if we decided to look for solutions in places we’ve never looked before?
