In collaboration with SJSU Foundation and School of Engineering, today, we are on-boarding virtually seven students in our Pilot year-long Work Study Program. These students will work with mentors on R&D activities ranging from digital and data fabrics for Aviation, Urban Air Mobility, advanced test technology, uncertainty quantification to systems engineering. Two more will be on-boarding next Monday, and two at a later date. Can't wait to meet them when we get back to work!

I updated my profile with a NASA official portrait with an American 🇺🇸 flag in the background which should be in the front instead. But I was not the official photographer. This is a big deal for me as an immigrant. This country is the best and will be for many decades to come. We are all good!

Airspace World 2024 in Geneva. I was very pleased to moderate a panel with experts on Space Launch and recovery operations: airspace integration. Excellent discussion with panel members from FAA, Eurocontrol, NATS, ICAO, and Airspace Innovation, LLC.

Wrapping two-days of international collaborations with our partners FAA, CANSO, SESAR, and IFAR discussing the future of AAM and ATM in the new digital world and the integration of new aircraft and operations into the National Airspace System. Very thankful to the NASA Aeronautics Research Institute team for their excellent support of the workshop and making sure all of our partners are well-taken care of. @Jonathan, Bree, Greg, and Karen. #NARI, #Ames, #Aeronautics

Two new aircraft ceremonies in a week. I was in part of the NASA - Lockheed Martin Skunkworks unveiled X-59 which aims to reduce the sonic boom to a thump. It was so impressive and slick with its long nose. Pam Melroy and Bob Pearce were on hand at the revealing party. This represents the best innovation and dedication from both NASA and LM Skunkworks team. Thank you!

On September 24, 11 am EST, Osiris-Rex, sample return capsule (SRC) will bring home asteroid materials for science study for decades to come. Again, Phenolic Impregnated Carbon Ablator (PICA) will be the thermal protection material that will take the heat at earth entry velocity at 12.5 km/sec - the second fastest earth entry. Stardust SRC (the elder sister) still holds the record of 12.9km/sec entry velocity in 2006. PICA has proven to be the wonder heat shield material that enabled two sample return missions, Mars Science Laboratory, Mars2020; Space-X Dragon cargo missions (27 and counting), and six Crew Dragon missions with PICA-X. Next stop, Mars Sample Return! NASA invention at its best. Can’t wait to welcome Osiris-Rex home! Thank you to my friends JPL, FMI, and LMA for making this mission possible. #PICA #ChristineSzalai@JPL, #FMI, #LMA
