In light of Mothers Day, here are three lessons that apply to both parenting and fundraising:   1) When emotions are high, don't try to rationalise or teach.   2) It's 100% true when I tell my 2 year old 'This cake wouldn't have been so tasty without your help' or 'Because you helped unload the dishwasher, I have more time to play with you!' ... did the two misplaced mugs make a massive difference? Maybe not. But it made a difference.   3) "Oh my gosh, we forgot the change bag!"... Take the risk and have fun. But keep your eye out for warning signs, have a plan and know where the exit is.   4) Humans seek connection, especially when they are having a hard time. Put the corporate guide aside, listen (properly) and make sure they know they are not alone. *If this fails, dance.   5) Handmade beats hallmark every single time.   *Applies to parenting only #fundraising #mothersday #workingmum #charity

Charity truly does begin at home, as the saying goes. It serves as a reminder that if we cannot show love and care for our own family, how can we extend that love to others? It is a valuable lesson for all of us to remember that charity starts within the walls of our own homes. We must first learn to wholeheartedly care for and love our family before we can share that love with the outside world. It is our primary responsibility to prioritize serving our family before others, and to fulfill our duties towards them above all else. While some may argue that this means prioritizing our family's needs over those of others, others interpret this proverb as emphasizing the importance of teaching children about charity within the home. Children learn by example, so when parents demonstrate love, generosity, and a commitment to social causes, their children are likely to follow suit and contribute positively to society. By setting a positive example, parents can instill the value of giving back in their children, who will in turn pass on these teachings to future generations. On the other hand, if children witness their parents mistreating those in need, they are more likely to replicate that behavior. Love-based support is essential for each of us, from the first steps to the whole journey through life. Especially, during challenges or difficult times that come into our lives sometimes gradually and sometimes rapidly. As a mother of four children myself, I can confirm that isolation is real. As parents or caregivers, I believe that we should teach our children as early as possible that emotions are real. Thus, they will be able to identify and express their feelings and ask for support as needed. Would love to see more curricula centered on parenting, communication, leadership, emotions, etc. which all could be linked to history, science, math, or language classes.
