🌟 Catalina López of Project Bread on El Mundo Boston's 𝗟𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗳𝗲́ 🌟 Catalina López, Vice President of Engagement at #ProjectBread, 💬✨ during her participation in La Hora del Café, underscored the importance of taking action on food insecurity, as it remains a pressing concern nationwide, even in prosperous states like #Massachusetts. National Philanthropy Policy 2024-2028: Hope for Ireland's Rural Communities? Building upon the work of PLACEengage - Your Virtual Town Hall and Proptech Ireland, I was delighted to see the publication of Ireland's first National Philanthropy Policy 2024-2028 this week! This policy marks an important shift in thinking by the State and could be a genuine game-changer for our rural communities, facilitating innovative solutions for rural challenges and potentially strengthening rural communities to ensure future resilience. Critically, the policy aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs), promising that rural areas are not left behind in our journey towards a sustainable future, and the emphasis on collaboration and enhanced public consultation (Public Consultation Institute of Ireland) opens doors for rural stakeholders to have a stronger voice in shaping initiatives that directly impact their lives. Announcing the "Moving the Needle" Community Investment Grant Program for Holyoke, Malden, Lynn, Lowell, Worcester, and New Bedford!! At Project Bread, we believe that Massachusetts can lead the way as the first hunger-free state in the nation through collaborative efforts. We recognize that food insecurity takes various forms in different communities and that local partners and residents possess the expertise needed to address these challenges effectively. Moreover, we are committed to listening and learning from those directly impacted to drive meaningful change. We are thrilled to introduce the launch of the "Moving the Needle" community investment grant program. The core objective of this program is to harness the agency and endeavors of organizations in combating hunger and food insecurity within their communities. "Moving the Needle" seeks projects that address food insecurity while fostering systemic change that yields the most significant, positive, and sustainable impact on local communities. This initiative focuses on three key priority areas: Policy & Advocacy, Education to Expand the Reach of Federal Nutrition Programs, and Innovation. Achieving systemic and sustainable change requires time and deliberate effort. As such, the "Moving the Needle" community investment program spans over two years, with annual installments of up to $30,000. We invite organizations that share Project Bread's deep commitment to eradicating hunger in Massachusetts communities to apply. Local grassroots organizations, community organizers, faith communities, after-school programs, and other non-traditional groups are encouraged to submit proposals for community projects in Malden, New Bedford, Lynn, Lowell, Holyoke, and Worcester. Please note that this fund is not designed for emergency food distribution, but could be used to enhance connections among individuals engaged in emergency food programs. I’ve loved helping Hubbub launch their Nature Hubs fund and winners and seeing some of the amazing projects up and running all over the country. On a personal note, community gardening is a topic very close to my heart. Not only am I part of the allotment-holding community, I also volunteer in a primary school, teaching kids how to grow food and look after nature. Every week I witness the pure joy these children feel from seeing their seeds germinate, observing insects and even sampling elderflower cordial from the elderflowers they’ve picked. We need to create a foundation for children to protect and work with nature in the future and I truly believe school and community gardening can play a big role in this. Academic research shows how access to gardens at school can help promote pro-conservation behaviour among pupils. So why is it not more of a priority considering the huge environmental challenges we’re facing? Well there’s no money. Most teachers aren’t trained in this area and just don’t have the capacity. Parent volunteers are scarce as they too are under pressure to work all hours and many don’t have the basic gardening skills needed. I don’t know what the answer is but I can’t help but feel there are solutions out there (local retired garden enthusiasts working with schools?). They just need resource and funding. I do hope the new government takes action on this… but I’m not holding my breath. In the meantime, it’s brilliant to see companies like Starbucks fund community gardening projects and help more people access green space and get closer to nature. Wouldn’t it be great for more of the private sector to help boost school gardening too?

There are 100 reasons to spend time in nature. 🌿 From getting creative inspiration, to channeling your inner hunter-gatherer. 🦣 I get my fix from running through the parks of North London, seeing how the seasons change and letting my mind float along the way. 🧠 Today Hubbub is announcing 100 more: the winners of The Nature Hubs Fund. We’ve just funded 100 community nature projects across the country with grants of up to £6k thanks to the Starbucks 5p Cup Charge. All 100 #NatureHubs are unique. Things like: • Greening a car park at the aquarium in Hull 🐡 • A community garden on a housing estate in Sheffield 🧑🌾 • Woodland restoration (with a creative writing twist) in Worcester 📝 All will bring nature closer to people and people closer to nature. 🔄 Our polling shows that 37% of people in the UK spend less than an hour a week in nature. We're celebrating 100 more reasons to do so with this video. Marking 30 years of making a difference Barretstown launched its Social Impact Report today at Leinster House with Stephen Donnelly T.D., Minister for Health. The social Impact and Social Value of Barretstown 1994-2023 reveals that the organisation has invested over €145 million to serve over 120,000 campers to-date and predicts this will increase to over 250,000 campers by 2030 as it expands its medically endorsed residential and outreach camps and programmes. Speaking at today's launch Dee Ahearn said, "As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, this report provides a timely insight into the evolution of the organisation which has gone from supporting over 100 children and family members in our first year of operations, to this year supporting over 22,000. Using peer reviewed research, one-to-one interviews with key stakeholders and survey responses, it provides a valuable insight into the impact of Barretstown on the lived experiences of children and families. https://lnkd.in/effDWtia

Initiated by an RSF DAF client, the Southern Black Farmers Community-Led Fund supports a thriving ecosystem of Black farmers, bolsters local food economies in the Southeast, and flips traditional philanthropy on its head by placing grantmaking power in community control.
