This week we visited the sites of the new Bullard Havens Technical High School and the new Bassick High School, both being constructed in Bridgeport CT with the added worker protections of Project Labor Agreements. Once both schools are completed, Bridgeport will have over 420,000 square feet of new state-of-the-art learning space for this community. This weekend, women of IBEW Local 488 along with WC McBride Electrical Contractors LLC participated in the all women's #100GirlsLeading summit to engage with young females from the Greater Bridgeport area and highlight the rewarding careers of being IBEW Electrical Workers! Today marks the 37th anniversary of the L'Ambiance Plaza collapse in Bridgeport, when 28 construction workers were killed due to faulty lift-slab construction. Today we remember the workers lost that day and recommit to our fight for safe working conditions for all construction workers. A Memorial will be held today at 11am, Bridgeport City Hall, 45 Lyon Terrace Side Entrance, for those able to attend.

Local 488 is hard at work constructing the new Danbury Career Academy. At 266,000 square feet, this new academy will be an extension of the existing Danbury High School and offer students a chance to graduate with specialized skills learned through a career and college readiness pathway.
