"Nobody gives a shi* about ED&I, Sahar". These were the exasperated words of a senior HR executive, who was telling me about a recent experience where... Having been asked, as part of a bids process to pull together a load of information on ED&I, they sent it across as a password protected pdf. They noted the pdf was part of the final submitted pitch and here's the kicker: Nobody ever asked for the password. Through the tender process, which they eventually won, there was never a single question, internally or externally, about ED&I. It led to a conclusion that they didn't care and hadn't ever really cared either. They probably only asked to tick a box. Hence my friend's understandable conclusion and feeling demoralised about the whole issue. If organisations pay lip service to ED&I, eventually their people will pay lip service to them. They will be left behind as people search for a positive and inclusive culture that values diversity and reflects the world we live and work in. And their people will leave.
