Incumbent stores can mitigate sales losses by reducing the relative distinctiveness of the entrant along three dimensions: variety, price-quality, and authenticity (full study available here: https://bit.ly/416Aj42). The second article, "The One-Party Versus Third-Party Platform Conundrum: How Can Brands Thrive?⁠" by Zhiling(Julien) Bei and Katrijn Gielens, focuses on two types of online platforms: (1) a one-party (1P) platform where brands sell to the online platform and use these platforms as authorized resellers and (2) a third-party (3P) platform where brands sell directly to consumers through the platform for a fee.
