This Planning Insight (No. 6) provides an overview of the key policies and changes made to the National Planning Framework (NPF) following the Government’s publication of the first Draft Revision of the NPF on the 10th July 2024, in accordance with Section 20C(5)(a) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended). The Draft Revision focuses on updates to the NPF to reflect significant and sustained population growth observed since the publication of the NPF in 2018 and updates to Government policy, amongst other factors. How to level up strategic planning policy! In May 2022 the Levelling-up and Regeneration Bill included an option for local authorities to jointly prepare Spatial Development Strategies, now the Bill has become an Act, the #Government need to make amendments to the #NPPF to build an appropriate framework and national policy to steer and incentivise SDSs. We’ve looked at sections from the December 2023 NPPF that relate to plan-making, and given our view of what needs to be considered and amended in the wider review of the NPPF to come. Data which is being used to help improve Dundee City Council’s performance will be outlined to councillors on Monday (June 10). The City Governance committee will consider analysis of the Local Government Benchmarking Framework Performance Indicators for 2022-23. In the report, measures covering council service areas are detailed and compared with similar councils across Scotland, based on factors like deprivation and urban density. Councillors will be told that the report focuses on data from the Improvement Service most aligned with the priorities set out on the Council Plan 2022-27. Urban Development Institute of New Zealand UDINZ was pleased to make a submission earlier today on the draft Government Policy Statement on land transport (GPS) 2024 released by the Minister of Transport for feedback. Urban Development and housing outcomes are inextricably connected with the development of appropriate infrastructure (including a well functioning transport system) able to accomodate demand.
