As it is Black History Month in the U.K. comes to a close , I wanted to showcase our incredible core Traineeship team! 💐✊🏿 Shannon Walker Nigel Twumasi Patroy Gordon Althea Blake & Trevor Johnson One day, it dawned on me how many of us are Black and I felt so proud, as this wasn’t intentional or a tick box exercise, just simply the way things are. I hope that this will be the case with ALL underrepresented groups in the future. 🤞🏿 It fills me with pride that our Trainees who come from various backgrounds and walks of life will have this many black people involved in kickstarting their creative careers. Many years ago, in my first week as a wide eyed graduate, I received advice from David Stafford which remains a core part of how I approach work life today. At 22 I'd moved to a country I'd never been to before, 3 days after finishing my undergraduate degrees, to do a 3 month summer internship at a small consulting firm. In theory I was going to return to NZ to do a Master degree. In reality, I've never really emotionally left Melbourne. I digress, the advice. My memory of the advice was personally profound, it gave me permission to grow and develop an inate strength - speaking truth to power. "I want you to feel comfortable to disagree with decisions we (the leadership team) make. When you do we expect you to be able to explain what you disagree with, why you disagree and have an idea or two on what you'd do differently. Our commitment is we will listen - sometimes you'll be right and we'll take on your recommendation. More often, there will be something you're missing or reasoning you're not aware of. Wherever possible, we will take the time to explain why we've made a decision and take the time to help you learn." What graduate Briar heard "when you come to us with courage, confidence and cohesive thoughts we will listen, teach and build your capabilities." This is a job where, in my application under leadership skills, I wrote "oldest of 6 girls" and under stakeholder management skills "divorced parents with 6 children living between 3 different households." They saw people, with raw skills and invested in developing them. This week I caught up with Dave, he's looking for work and is taking the opportunity to reconnect with people. It was a wonderful catch up and a great reminder of the power of leaders throughout your career. This year, I have graduated twice! Not only did I toss my cap in the air for my Mass Communications degree, but I am also celebrating my third work anniversary with some pretty sweet promotions. Balancing late-night study sessions with early morning meetings was no joke, but hey, who needs sleep when you're chasing dreams, right? 😅 Here’s a sneak peek at how it went: 🌟 Degree in Journalism: From crafting stories to mastering the art of persuasion, this degree has been a game-changer. The endless banter, supporting teachers, group projects, and those "aha" moments in class – totally worth it! 🌟 Three Years at TBO: What started as an internship (because it was Covid and I wanted to do something exciting) turned into my whirlwind career! Just 6 months in, I got the job and since then it has been full of challenges, learning curves, and victories. Now I can proudly say I am pretty good at everything digital and marketing. Shoutout to my amazing colleagues and mentors for being my cheerleaders and guiding lights. 🚀 Juggling college and a full-time job was like a high-wire act, but it taught me resilience, time management, and how to celebrate every little win. Years back, at an intern orientation program, a top exec once shared something that stuck with me: “You’re really lucky to be here. From today until the end of your life, whatever happens to you, it’s highly likely that you will live a more privileged life than most other people on this planet. Most people won’t get the chances you have. So, be kind, be thankful, and help out where you can. Sure, you’ll hit some bumps and maybe stumble, but you’re on a track many can only dream of. Don’t forget to give back.” So, when things don’t go as planned (rest assured, many won’t) in your career or studies or life, don’t lose heart. Keep giving your best and stay hopeful. And remember to give back to society—whether through research that lays the groundwork for future breakthroughs, through your dedicated efforts that lead your team or organization to success, by helping out a friend or relative in need, or simply by showing kindness to others, thereby preserving the essence of our humanity. Good things will come in time.

She shared how she’s failed more times than she has wins. How in retrospect all the jobs she’s had help to cultivate the business woman she now is. I promise I’m not a simp for my employer but… 🙈 This past weekend, I showed my MIL a shoutout I received from my boss. In her words: “That’s incredible. They don’t do anything like that at my job. I think you’ve found a great company.” On Monday our CEO announced that Sebastian Carrillo and I were both the Caxy Person of the Week! Definitely texted Sebastian that I felt like the prettiest princess at the ball 💁🏽♀️ One of our colleagues mentioned she didn’t think interns had been selected before, so it was an even bigger honor. Cool! This week, my team navigated through some murky waters as we began making our first application. I’m pretty sure we came out of it on top—or at least better than we were before we started. One of our project advisors mentioned how special and rare it is to begin a project from scratch. We had a crazy rare, crazy unique opportunity to learn and build something new. Again, cool! And today, my COO took the time to give me feedback and a vision after my first month at Caxy. It was so incredibly honest and thoughtful and appreciated. But I know, most employees don’t get to have this. Which is wild because I can’t imagine someone saying they don’t want to be treated like this at work. So if you’re in a leadership position, I can’t stress to you enough how much you can influence how your team or your employees feel about your company. Because people want to feel seen, heard, and appreciated. People want to have opportunities to learn and grow. People want to know they’re doing good work and they are valued. It’s what makes people buy in. It’s what makes people care about outcomes. And it’s what makes people want to stay (well beyond their internship). Shoutout to the great leaders. Happy Friday ☀️
