The #voluntarycarbonmarket is beginning to be regulated by the US, leveling the playing field There is growing US regulator scrutiny of the voluntary #carbon #market (VCM) and increasing requirements for transparency around #ESG measures/claims by #corporates, carbon offset claims, and disclosure of carbon emissions. The CFTC proposed guidance in December 2023 regarding the listing of voluntary carbon credit (VCC) derivative contracts on designated contract markets (DCMs). MOSS.Earth Anna Lerner Nesbitt Climate Collective The proposed guidance aims to address transparency, additionality, risk of reversal, robust quantification, governance, tracking and double counting, inspection provisions, and sustainable development benefits and safeguards. The #CFTC is seeking public input on the proposed guidance until March 2024. The #SEC announced in March 2023 that it would propose rules to require registrants to include climate-related risks and their greenhouse gas emissions in their disclosures. The SEC was seeking public input on the proposed rules until December 2023.

✅ The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) has announced the first high-integrity CCP-Approved methodologies, which will lead to the first CCP-labelled credits in the voluntary #carbonmarket. As assessments continue, this milestone signifies a crucial step towards increased transparency and trust within the #VCM. CCP-labelled credits will represent verified emissions reductions or removals achieved by projects tackling potent greenhouse gases, providing assurance that each unit represents a verified tonne of emissions reduced or removed from the atmosphere. 🌍 That's why, as the standard setter for the demand-side of the market, VCMI's Claims Code of Practice requires companies to meet #carboncredit use and quality thresholds by purchasing and retiring CCP-approved credits. The Claims Code incorporates the work done by the ICVCM and others, to deliver a comprehensive integrity standard and bring much-needed transparency to voluntary #carbonmarkets and climate claims.   We anticipate a growing market for these high-integrity credits that facilitate real-world #climatesolutions, and expect the volume to increase as more decisions come through from ICVCM's Board each month. The outcomes of our first-round of assessments should be unveiled in the first week of April, marking a pivotal milestone in advancing a high-integrity carbon market. To attain CCP eligibility, carbon-crediting programs must adhere to the criteria and requirements outlined in the Integrity Council's #CoreCarbonPrinciples Assessment Framework.
