“You don't need a uterus to be a mother because Motherhood is a behavior to love and care for someone” Recently I heard about the movie- “Taali” And someone said that it’s a true story of Sree Gauri Sawant, Sushmita Sen is acting as Gauri. I haven’t gone through the whole series, but I must say that this is a spark in the darkness. it’s a slap on the face of patriarchal society. Taali (Clap) is all about the frustrations of this community. It shows how much a transgender has to face. It is a must watch movie and an eye opener for so many, who treat trans people more badly than animals! Rather than talking about the series I would like to tell you something about Gauri– Once in her childhood someone asked her, when “SHE” was supposed to be “HE” - Bare ho ke kya banoge? She answered - “MAA” (and as usual it was unacceptable!) Gauri fought for the rights of trans and went to the Supreme Court of India and After a long journey of pain and struggle, In 2014, the SC recognized a transgender person's right to self-identification as male, female or the third gender. And now there are 3 sections in the “Select Your Gender area”, people are recognizing them. – Section 377, a law that criminalized same-sex relations, was struck down in 2018. Now it is legally permissible for LGBT people to engage in consensual intercourse. I also have a very easy question for you - Doctor’s kid - doctor, Engineer’s kids- engineer then s*x worker’s kid- ?(You got it, unfortunately!) But the good news is that she is doing an extremely remarkable job by running - Ajji ka ghar / nani ka ghar for kinds of s*x workers. I would say that she is doing so many things and changing society for the good. But it must be understood that problems are man made sometimes, so it’s also our responsibility to empathize only with those who need it. And yes, This series appears to be a powerful reminder of the importance of equality, respect, and understanding the issues of our fellow beings. #ProudHR #Taali #GenderEquality #Inclusion #section377 #LGBTQ

Happy Pan Pride Day! Every year on the 8th December it is a celebration for Pansexual Pride Day. It is a time for both individuals and organisations around the world to come together and celebrate Pansexuality and raise further awareness to Pansexual people and their community. What is Pansexuality? Pansexuality is a sexual, romantic or emotional attraction towards others regardless of their sex or gender identity. Pansexual people my refer to themselves as Omnisexual or Gender-Blind, asserting that gender is not a determining factor for their romantic or sexual attraction to others. Pansexuality differs from Bisexuality but the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Being Bisexual means being attracted to more than one gender, whereas Pansexual means being attracted to people regardless of gender. Pansexuality and Bisexuality do not conflict one another, some people believe that Pansexuality better includes people of all genders while others are happy identifying as Bisexual. It's not uncommon for some Bisexual people to also identify as Pansexual, and vice versa. Pansexuality is included under the Bisexual umbrella, which covers anyone who experiences sexual or romantic attraction to more than one gender. What is Pansexual Pride Day? Pansexual Pride Day is not to be confused with Pansexual and Panromantic Awareness and Visibility Day that lands on the 24th May each year. Although different dates to celebrate, they do however follow the same theme in supporting Pansexuality and to increase further knowledge and understanding of Pansexual people and the Pansexual community. Like other Pride days within the LGBTQ+ calendar, Pansexual Pride Day is an opportunity to bring awareness to the stories and experiences of Pansexual people within society and to look further into how we can work together to improved inclusivity for Pansexual people. What can you do to be an ally? - Join an event to educate and upskill yourself - there are a few online today - Spread the awareness and your education on pansexuality - Elevate pan voices - create space and a platform for those who are pan to speak 💗💛💙 HAPPY PAN PRIDE 💗💛💙 #pansexual #PanPride #LGBT #LGBTQIA #DEI

The first pan pride flag is made up of the colours pink, yellow, and blue, with the pink stripe representing attraction to female-identified people. The blue represents attraction to male identified-people, and the yellow stripe represents non-binary attraction. What can you do to be an ally? 🤔 What does it mean to be "gender-fluid?"🤔 🔷 Being "𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗶𝗱" is a term used to describe a gender identity that is not fixed to a single gender (even beyond the binary of male and female) and can shift or change over time. Individuals who identify as gender-fluid experience a fluidity in their gender expression, identity, or experience, and may feel a range of different gender identities at different times. This can involve moving between or encompassing various points on the gender spectrum. 🔷 Gender fluidity challenges the traditional binary concept of gender (male and female) and recognizes that gender is a complex and multifaceted aspect of a person's identity. Gender-fluid individuals might feel more connected to certain gender identities on some days and different identities on other days, or they might not feel a strong connection to any specific gender at all. 🔷 It's important to understand that gender fluidity is just one of many gender identities that exist within the broader transgender and non-binary spectrum. Each individual's experience of their gender is unique, and they may use different terms or labels to describe their identity. Respecting and using the pronouns and language that individuals prefer is crucial in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for people of all gender identities. https://lnkd.in/gfHypp_G #SexTherapistJess #InnerStrength #SexualHealth #GenderIdentity #GenderFluid #ChallengeTheBinary #LGBTQ #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #SexTherapy #Gender

Pride Month: A Frequently Asked Question Why Pride Month if there's no Straight Month? 1️⃣ Heterosexuality has historically been the societal norm, and straight individuals don't face the same level of discrimination and persecution based on their sexual orientation. 2️⃣ Heterosexuality is already widely accepted and represented in mainstream culture. 3️⃣ Straight people aren't denied jobs, housing, or healthcare due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. 4️⃣ LGBTQ+ individuals around the world still struggle with issues like lack of marriage equality, adoption rights, and legal gender recognition. 5️⃣ Straight persons are not as frequently disowned by their families or friends as LGBTQ+ community members are. 6️⃣ LGBTQ+ community members, especially transgender individuals and people of color, are disproportionately targeted for hate crimes and acts of violence. 7️⃣ It's crucial to understand the historical context and challenges such as systemic discrimination and marginalization experienced by LGBTQ+ individuals in educational institutions, workplaces, public spaces, and more. 8️⃣ Homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia contribute to negative attitudes, stereotypes, and misconceptions globally. 9️⃣ LGBTQ+ people face higher risks of mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and suicide due to the stress and stigma they encounter. 🔟 Challenges faced by straight individuals are significant but aren't rooted in discrimination or prejudice based on sexual orientation or gender identity. While it may feel excluding for non-LGBTQ+ individuals to see so much attention given to Pride Month, it's important to recognize privileges and acknowledge the experiences of marginalized communities. Pride Month is not just a celebration; it's an opportunity for reflection, education, and a movement for inclusivity and acceptance. #PrideMonth #Inclusivity #CelebrateDiversity #LGBTQ+ #Pride2024 #LoveIsLove

💫Clebrating 5th Queer Azaadi! Happy #QueerAzaadi!💫 Five years ago, on this very day, India took a historic step by decriminalizing homosexuality by reading down IPC 377, a move that shattered barriers and brought hope to countless lives. 🇮🇳🏳️🌈 This journey would not have been possible without the unwavering contributions of countless individuals and organizations who tirelessly fought, not only in courts but also in the hearts and minds of our nation. 💪❤️ I remember the days when I, too, was labeled a criminal because of my sexuality. Those were challenging times, filled with discrimination and fear. But today, I stand here as a proud DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) lead and Queer Right Activist, celebrating this transformative progress. 🌟 Here are some of the incredible changes we've seen in the past 5 years: 1️⃣ Increased Awareness: The decriminalization of homosexuality sparked conversations about LGBTQ+ rights across the nation. Awareness and understanding of the LGBTQ+ community have grown exponentially. 2️⃣ Workplace Equality: More companies are actively working to create inclusive work environments, implementing policies that support LGBTQ+ employees and recognizing the value of diversity. 3️⃣LGBTQ+ Representation: We've witnessed more LGBTQ+ representation in media, politics, and various sectors, inspiring future generations to be their authentic selves. However, striking down of #Sec377 is just the stepping stone. We must continue to advocate for complete equality, tackle discrimination in all its forms, and ensure that every LGBTQ+ individual feels safe, respected, and included. As we celebrate these 5 years of progress, we look forward with hope to the Supreme Court as we await the judgment on Marriage Equality. Let's remain united in our commitment to building a society where everyone can thrive, regardless of their sexual orientation. 🏳️🌈❤️ A pic from November 26th, 2017, at the Namma Pride 2017. #DEI #LGBTQ+ #EqualityForAll #India #DiversityAndInclusion #DiversityEquityInclusion #Progress #5YearsOfDecriminalization #NoGoingBack #LoveIsLove 🌟

The #LGBTQ+ movements in the West and India differ significantly. While the West often focuses on individualism and visibility, India takes a more holistic approach by addressing the immediate needs of the community. This approach is not only effective but necessary for true empowerment and inclusion. Empowering the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender individuals, is crucial for several reasons: 1. #Human_Rights: Every individual, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation, deserves basic human rights, including safety, dignity, and equality. 2. #Economic_Inclusion: Providing access to employment opportunities helps break the cycle of poverty and marginalization. This economic empowerment leads to greater self-sufficiency and societal contribution. 3. #Political_Representation: Inclusion in the political process ensures that the voices of LGBTQ+ individuals are heard and their unique challenges are addressed in policymaking. 4. #Social_Acceptance: Increased visibility and participation in mainstream society help to reduce stigma and discrimination, fostering a more inclusive and harmonious community. In #India, significant strides are being made. #Maya_Nayak from Karnataka's Yadgir district exemplifies this progress. Overcoming severe hardships, she legally changed her gender, received financial and mental health support, and actively participated in the #democratic_process. In last year's state elections, Maya voted as a legally recognized trans woman for the first time and became a voter awareness #ambassador. An impressive 97% of registered voters in her district turned out, showcasing the community's growing #political_engagement. India's focus on socioeconomic inclusion provides tangible improvements, offering a more effective model for true empowerment. This approach not only uplifts individuals but also enriches society as a whole by embracing diversity and promoting equality. Empowering the LGBTQ+ community is not just about individual rights; it’s about building a fair and just society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. #TransgenderRights #LGBTQ #Inclusion #Empowerment #India

I think I’m one of the few privileged people to be working in an extremely supportive environment. Even though I work in the legal space, I’ve never been to dress or present myself a certain way. I have a supportive boss and I get to work with one of the first LGBTQ rights lawyers in the country, Anand Grover. I have never been told that I can't do a certain thing when it comes to my gender expression. I also enjoy the chance to work on several cases promoting equality, be it queer or otherwise. I use this as a jumping board to make courts, and the legal profession more inclusive, not just for queer people, but also by advocating for inclusivity at a policy level. The legal profession is stubbornly resistant to change, but I think everyday that I go to court, I’m pushing the boundaries just a tiny bit. Ofcourse there have been stray remarks that come across as homophobic in the court corridors, but I choose to not keep a tab on them. I think some of the things that I’ve done have been more public facing. This has included advocating for use of pronouns in appearance slips in court. I’ve also advocated for gender neutral bathrooms in the Supreme Court itself. However the most radical thing that I’ve done is allow myself to bring my authentic self to the Court, which has sometimes included going to court with my nails painted bright red. When it came to the marriage equality case, unlike other workplaces, at mine there were no debates about the validity of our rights and just discussions on how to win them. Since we were appearing in the case, there were discussions on strategy on what arguments to advance since we were working with lawyers who have played a crucial role in the movement itself, be it representing Dominic D’Souza in the past to the Naz foundation case. 🌈 Pride Matters 🌈 ✨According to Randstad’s global Pulse survey of 2,000 LGBTQ+ workers in 7 countries, only 49% of people felt comfortable to disclose their sexuality or gender identity at work. At the University of Derby we work hard to create an environment where people can be authentic. Each year, the number of employees who select 'prefer not to say' in relation to their sexual orientation/ gender identity is decreasing and this tells us that people feel psychologically safe to be their whole self at work. ⚡ 🔥 Pride at #derbyuni is a time to talk about what matters to our people in a safe and supportive environment. Our #recruitment team asked why #pridematters and got an amazing response from LGBTQ+ Role Model and Gender Ally Ellie Ruddock ✨ ‘The environment that #derbyuni provides is vital not only for wellbeing, but also in feeling confident to explore and discuss issues surrounding EDIB (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging) within professional contexts. The presence of allyship and networks are essential to providing a #safe environment for these conversations to continue and for changes to be made.’ We take #equity seriously and are committed to creating an environment that cultivates #PRIDEnotprejudice 🌸 If you are interested in working in a culture of connection and allyship you can view our current vacancies here: https://lnkd.in/e7FT3wtM #pridemonth #allyship #EDI #inclusion #belonging #diversity #derbyuni #UoD #2024 #celebration #community #PRIDE #LGBTQ+ #recruitment
