Last week, the Brink team ventured to Fforest Farm in West Wales for our annual retreat. Our goals were to: ⭐️ Produce impactful in-person work and delve deeper into Brink's mission ⭐️ Forge strong connections among fellow Brinksters ⭐️ Create 'space between the logs' to be fully present with one another To achieve this, you'll need the winning recipe: Unique location 🏕️ Choose a place different from the everyday, ideally close to nature, so your team can unplug from all the screens Well-designed itinerary 🗓️ Ensure a perfect balance of full team workshops, solo working time, breaks, and fun activities (always include a 30-minute buffer after every team session!) Share the load 🤝 Nominate team members to lead different parts of the itinerary throughout the week, such as designing sessions, running a quiz night, or creating the party theme. You don't need to do it all yourself Follow the vibe 💃🏻 Be ready to adjust timings at the last minute to sustain everyone's energy. What a day yesterday was. The Cultura Connect team met for a day of canoeing down the River Severn which was a great opportunity to catch up with each other, meet the "new guy" Rob Bentham, discuss current roles, future roles and ideas for the development of the company, but most importantly have a laugh! 🛶 A pleasant surprise was to receive the 'Company Values Award' from the previous winner Laura Morris. The Cultura Team have worked hard on identifying and developing our core values, and every single one of our team strives to uphold them. In my particular case it was in recognition of resilience and being team orientated. So what are our core values? Our core values are at the heart of everything we do: 1. 💪 Resilient 2. 💖 Compassionate 3. 👫 Team Orientated 4. 🌟 Integrity 5. 🚀 Proactive 6. ❤️🔥 Passion for the Industry 7. 🌱 Growth Mindset Next was the canoeing. I partnered up with @Rob Bentham and Tom Marsh for the 12 miles from Montofrd Bridge to the centre of Shrewsbury. After a mile or two we got past the stage of splashing water at the other boats and pushing them in to the bank and on the serious business of finding lunch. This was supplied by Sam and Claire Barker from Great Berwick Organics and their hospitality was perfect. It was also interesting to hear about the development of their business, the longhorn cattle, the online shop, supplying pub chains, their collaboration with Pipers Crisps, the two shoots they run...you get the picture! It's great to hear about businesses that are going from strength to strength and how they are taking on new opportunities and running with them. All ties in with our own core values! There's perk in volunteering. Last evening, the Board Advisors, Board Members and the Exco of MentorsHub got together for team bonding at Octave Institute Limited We immersed ourselves in a transformative culinary experience that aligns with mindfulness. We were grouped into 3 teams, each team customising their own spices and ingredients (herbs grown from the company's garden) to make their own version of vegetarian curry. Master Chef Jeremy Nguee and his team patiently explained the different herbs and ingredients. Each team is to work together to make the curry from scratch, there is no benchmark or recipe to follow. The analogy here is teamwork. As a team, no one dominates the conversation, each of us has a voice and collectively we agree on what works. We had fun working in our own teams and together with the rest. It was not the usual team bonding program. The highlight of the evening was the camaraderie and conversations over dinner and champagne. It's always great to meet up with fellow "colleagues" and not talk about work. Of course with this recharge, we are all ready to serve the 2024 cohort of mentees (our 10th) - to inspire them to live a life of purpose and significance. I did not know this! Apparently, bees fan their wings to cool the hive. It reminds me of the occasions where we have to drop everything and go and work on one particular task for the benefit of a project. This team ❤️ Entering the weekend feeling so grateful for the three days the Enablo team were able to spend together this week. We reflected, celebrated, sang, played, ate, laughed, drank wine, planned, and smiled (a lot). Massive shoutout to Lancemore Hotel Group and Cleveland Winery for hosting us, in particular Mariel Sloane and William Zan, Emily, Bronte, Sue, the Chefs, and the whole Cleveland team for taking such amazing care of us. The whole experience was flawless. You have a great team Julian Clark. 5 ⭐️’s all the way. On Day 1, the team acknowledged the fact that none of us would have the opportunity to work for such a great company if it wasn’t for the courage and steely determination of three guys who decided to leave the safety of great jobs to experience the roller coaster life as an entrepreneur - big thanks always to Mark Wyman, Daragh McGrath, and Dave Nixon. I also want to acknowledge Thomas Hackett and Eran Gil - better Board members, mentors, and supporters I could not ask for. Our focus now shifts to closing out 2023 strong, and continuing our momentum and mission into 2024: Helping organisations build a more connected, productive, and successful workforce by combining the right modern work experiences and technologies.
