New Post: ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’: How to Watch the Movie That Inspired Ariana Grande’s New Album Online - https://lnkd.in/gjWcgfaf - All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, Billboard may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes. Ariana Grande is blessing Arianators with a seventh studio album titled Eternal Sunshine, which from the teasers the “Yes, And?” singer has been posting on Instagram, takes inspiration from the 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This isn’t the first time that Grande has used her favorite movies as themes for albums of course — she famously paid homage to Mean Girls in the video to 2019’s Thank U, Next. As for Eternal Sunshine (the film) and Grande, the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper recently posted photos of herself dressed exactly like the film’s character Clementine, played by Kate Winslet, while holding up vinyls of Eternal Sunshine (the album). The most obvious callout to the film is in her teaser video announcement for the single “We Can’t Be Friends,” which shows Grande in a waiting room while going over a consent form that is just like the one from the movie. If you’re new to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or want to rewatch the movie before the “NASA” singer’s new album drops on Friday (March 8), you have some streaming options. Taylor Swift is an economic powerhouse. These numbers are staggering. People are willing to pay upwards of $4,000 for a single ticket to attend her concerts. Taylor Swift Tops All Past Female Pop Stars! Taylor Swift, the pop superstar’s latest release, “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”, sold 580,000 copies of vinyl between October 27 and November 1, making it the fastest-selling vinyl record ever since the stat was first tracked in 1991. That’s according to Billboard, which cited data from Luminate. The massive debut helped her extend her lead over Barbra Streisand for most No. 1 albums for a female artist. Swift now has 13 No. 1 records to Streisand’s 11. But that’s not all Swift has accomplished this year. Swift’s Eras Tour is poised to become the highest-grossing tour of all time, earning a record-setting $1 billion in sales. Swift’s dominance wasn’t just limited to the world of music: she added movie theaters in for good measure. The concert film of the Eras Tour became the highest-grossing domestic concert film ever in just its first weekend. The film has earned more than $200 million worldwide since its October 13 release date, and its $92.8 million debut was enough to make it the second-highest opening weekend ever for a movie released in October. Alicia Keys + Native Instruments are releasing a virtual instrument of her famous piano sound (A Yamaha CP-70 + her effects). Now, anyone can get her sound with this plugin. Ten years ago this would have been a big story and somewhat noteworthy, but because of tech advances we expect things like this. You can now get any sound you want: the natural reverb of Carnegie Hall? John Bonham's drum sound? Alicia Keys' piano? Just cue it up. It's a win-win. Creators can get a sound they love; Alicia Keys a new (if modest) revenue stream. The next version of this? Native Instruments doesn't need to build anything. Alicia Keys licenses her stems to an AI model, and creators use text or sounds to prompt a sample into existence. #musicindusty #musicbusiness #artists #recording
Head of Artist & Industry Relations at Native Instruments (now including iZotope & Plugin Alliance/Brainworx)
Doesn't get much bigger than this... excited to announce Alicia's Electric Keys! A virtual instrument constructed from her signature CP-70 piano. Not only is Alicia Keys one of the biggest musicians in the world, having just performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show and Tony Awards (where her musical led the pack with 13 noms), she's also an accomplished producer, 16-time GRAMMY winner, and most importantly an incredibly kind and hard-working human being. It was an honor to work with Alicia and her all-star team of Ann Mincieli, Kez Khou, and Brendan Morawski to bring her CP-70 to life for millions of music-makers around the world. Here at Native Instruments, we had an all-star team of our own...big thanks to Bomo Piri for QB'ing so much of it, Ilay Bal Arslan for navigating the product development, Ervin Reszler, Samuel Hora and Jack Tarricone for leading marketing, Alastair Oloo and Zack F. for superhuman videographer efforts, Mick Benjamins and Matthieu Lamassiaude for driving the social media +Youtube worlds, and last but not least the whole team who built the damn thing! Kate Lindsay’s amazing artwork, Tolga Zafer Özdemir, Francesco Sabatini, Efflam Le Bivic and several others I'm inevitably forgetting. You built something that people will use to make amazing music for decades to come.

The Residents released their LP 'Meet the Residents' on 1 April 1974, apparently selling 40 copies of their avant garde music over the following 12 months. I bought a copy in 1977 – from Flyover Records, Hammersmith – and became hooked, seeing them perform their 'Mole Show' at Hammersmith Odeon in the 1980s before losing interest after they moved into video game stuff and rediscovering them in the 2000s. A Californian-based art collective, they sent some demo tapes to Warner Bros, who were not impressed and – because there was no band name, only a return address – mailed them back to 'The Residents', which became their name. Apart from several videos of the 40 1-minute songs on their 'Commercial Album' aired frequently on MTV, the act achieved little commercial success, which is no surprise when their music has been described as 'totally unlistenable to 99% of the public – like grating nails on a chalkboard'. They have, however, achieved some critical acclaim. I am one of the few who can and wants to listen to (some of) their music. I admire them for continuing to do what they want to do for 50+ years, releasing 60+ albums and still being here. This is a tough approach, both from an artistic and business point of view. It is much easier to do what audiences and customers want and will pay for than to do what you believe is best. Over 30 years in business, there have been many practices, trends, technologies that I just don't like or agree with and I have steered clear of them. I don't follow any trend for the sake of it, which is why I seem to veer further away from the mainstream. Even if I am not avant garde – opinions differ – I sleep well and, in myself and in business, am the most contented I have ever been, saddened mainly by the condition of the world around me. If asked to give any advice based on my experience, it would be: Don't do anything that you can see is not good. Whatever it is you do, practise what you believe in. As to The Residents, I find it difficult to comprehend the passing of 47 years since first listening to such weird music.

Multi-industry Executive IT Leader Focused on People, Relationships and Business Outcomes | Audit Committee Member | Mentor | Problem Solver
Here’s the second in a series of thoughts that stem from the Stephan Hogan podcast with Vince Gill (I originally said there would be 4, but I think there may end up being more). This one is very interesting to me. Stephan and Vince are talking about a period before Vince hit the big time as a solo artist. Vince was working on his next solo album and described the times as “lean” financially. As Vince tells it, Mark Knopfler had offered him a spot on the world tour for Dire Straits. Vince declined the offer, saying that as bad as he needed it financially, "...If I don't believe in me, no one else will." Note: that record turned out to be Vince’s solo break out “When I Call Your Name” which went on to be certified double platinum, with the title track winning a Grammy for Best Male Vocal Country Performance and Single of the Year from Country Music Association. In the business world I think this is sometimes captured in the idea of “imposter syndrome”. Am I good enough? Do I deserve to be here? Personally, I want to be around people who believe in the importance of what they are doing and believe in their ability to get it done. Does it have to be perfect? No. Do we have to recover when there’s been a misstep? Yes. It can be so tempting to take the easier path, particularly when the road gets much more difficult, even if it means giving up on something that we might hold dear or valuable. But, sticking it out matters. This week my challenge to myself and each of you: let’s believe in ourselves. Let’s give other people a reason to believe in us. Let refresh our “why” and keep it at the center of our journey. Make it a great week! #mondaythought #continuousimprovement

People don’t remember every word you say; they remember how you make them feel. People don’t listen to music to be reminded of their day jobs. People listen to music to escape them. People don’t go to concerts to see their exes. People go to concerts to escape them. People don’t get on social media to be reminded of their frustrations. People get on social media to escape them. Be the artist continually creating a great escape, and you’ll be the artist that people turn to whenever they need one. And we all need one. The trick here is to connect the narrative from your music to your social media, your concerts, your merchandise, and on and on. The best escape artists meet their audience in their emotions by showing they have been there too and they understand. Then, take your audience on a journey to escape their troubles, and as a by-product, you will escape yours by creating the audience you once wished you had and making the money you once wished you made. Think of being an escape artist like being the narrator in a movie. You are leading your audience’s great escape. Song by song. Album by album. Video by video. Tour by tour. Social media post by social media post. Merch piece by merch piece. With each escape, you’ll convert people into fans and fans into super fans. Create the escape that represents who you are, and I guarantee you’ll soon be that artist for your audience.
