WORK COMMENCES ON NEW £1.5M ANNEX TO GREATER LANCASHIRE HOSPITAL 🦺 • Work officially begins on purpose-built annex to Greater Lancashire Hospital • Phase one will create a new state-of-the- art ultrasound suite and consulting rooms • “A Lancashire Hospital operated by local people for local people” Greater Lancashire Hospital has commenced building work on a £1.5m annex located at the side of our current premises in Preston. The building will welcome NHS patients from across Lancashire and the North West when it opens in Ribbleton’s Millennium City Park this autumn. Fit-out work has now commenced on phase one which includes a state-of-the-art ultrasound suite, dedicated physiotherapy and gym areas, seven consulting rooms as well as a reception to the clinical suite. The original Greater Lancashire Hospital has been transforming the health of locally-based residents since it was founded by Preston-headquartered entrepreneurs Sara and Gwam Rajiah in 2014. Working closely with some of the UK’s best-known consultants and medical practitioners, our hospital supports regional NHS trusts and private healthcare patients. Gwam Rajiah, executive chairman of Greater Lancashire Hospital, said: “This new annex will ensure that the best medical care is available for even more Lancashire and North West people. “But it’s also a really exciting development in the evolution of Greater Lancashire Hospital as we seek to cater for a constantly increasing appetite for our services.” Mr Rajiah expects the new 10,000 sq ft annex – which occupies the former Synetics building - will create at least 50 new clinical roles and an additional 20 clerical roles upon completion. Complete with 30 free car parking spaces accessible via a soon-to-be created entrance on Longridge Road, the annex will operate in unison with Greater Lancashire Hospital’s original, neighbouring site. Among the Preston-based contractors currently working on the first phase of the annex are Wyder Construction and air conditioning specialists DD Cooling. The building work is being overseen by Greater Lancashire Hospital’s director of investment and development, Myles Rajiah, who said: “We’re already well ahead of schedule and that’s testament to the skill, professionalism and expertise of Wyder Construction’s team. “At any time, there are more than 50 different contractors on site – all of whom are from Preston and the surrounding area. “The state-of-the-art air filtration and extraction system, which is also fully compliant with the strictest NHS guidelines, is the most recent component to be installed.” Greater Lancashire Hospital, which is part of Preston-headquartered Bespoke Healthcare Group, is the only hospital in the area that has currently received ‘outstanding’ for patient care by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). What a weird coincidence! Having just shared on the medical industry just yesterday, a colleague of mine fell ill while we were in Bangkok for work. It was even more coincidental that one of the local business partners invited Piyavate Hospital to set up a booth. So we immediately called the nurses, and they appeared in a jiffy! Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan makes Newsweek's Top 10 Hospital Ranking Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, Israel, received the honor of ranking ninth-best hospital globally on “Newsweek's” top-ten hospitals, an improvement from its 11th-place ranking last year. Two other Israeli hospitals have seen significant jumps in their rankings: Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center ranked 64th, up from 158th last year, and Rabin Medical Center - Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva ranked 158th, up from 178th last year. In addition to ranking hospitals internationally “Newsweek'', in conjunction with “Statista'', also ranked the top 10 hospitals internal to each country. Sheba Medical Center naturally took first place followed by Ichilov Hospital and Beilinson Hospital. Following the top three from the international list the rest ranked as follows: Rambam Hospital in Haifa; Hadassah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem; and Soroka Hospital on Beer Sheva took fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively. Rounding off the top ten were Shaarei Zedek in Jerusalem, Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba, Western Galilee Hospital in Nahariya, and finally Hadassah Mount Scopus in Jerusalem. This is a huge win for Sheba Medical Center and for Israel in general. As director general Professor Yitshak Kreiss says, “This is an exceptional vote of confidence by the international community in Israel's medical system. I dedicate this achievement to Israel's entire medical system, whose strengths have stood out even more during the trial of war. This achievement is further evidence of the resilience of the health system, which continues to be as always an anchor for the State of Israel." Sheba Hospital can claim an astonishing 98% survival rate for the treatment of war injuries, including battlefield casualties. Newsweek bases their list of hospitals on their accomplishments in research, medical care, and innovation, and by recommendations from an international survey of 80,000 doctors, hospital administrators, and health professionals. Patient satisfaction surveys and an index evaluating treatment quality and safety are also considered in the selection process. I would also like to give a loud soot out to these two wonderful wound nurses, Hanne Rusten Værnes and Synnøve Aske Høyland. They run an ambulatory wound team, and the expertise is transferred directly to the community - this is sustainable nursing and wound care at its best!   The aim is increased quality of life for the patient, closer contact between the community and hospital, increased wound expertise in the community and assessment of the health economic effects of ambulatory wound teams. FANTASTIC!   They achieved this through collaboration with NORCE, (Norwegian Reseach Cebter) and a joint application to the Research Council of Norway for funding.   TELE-AMBUS is a project that will last over four years, until August 2025, and every week the ulcer disease camps together with two researchers go out into the municipality and meet patients and nurses from the municipality. The focus of the wound nurses: the patient, the wound and teaching those who will follow the wound up in the municipality The focus of the researchers: what promotes and what hinders wound care in terms of technology, management and organisation.   This is AMAZING, innovative and sustainable! Many thanks to everyone involved - here it's just a matter of watching and learning - thank you!   And the best tip I have received from these two ladies is; headlamp, an essential tool in all wound care! ANALYSIS OF HOSPITAL COMPANIES 13. DR AGARWAL’S EYE HOSPITAL LTD PART 2 The Indian Eye Care Industry is valued at $1.4 billion. This industry is characterized by very few corporatized players (who hold 5-6% of the market share) who can bring the best medical and operational efficiencies to the table. This leaves an exponential upside on growth levers. And with the increasing use of screens and the aging Indian population, Eye Care is the need of the time. Extract from CRISIL rating report dt 28th August 23. CRISIL Ratings has revised its outlook on the long-term bank facilities of Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital Limited (DAEHL) to ‘Positive’ from ‘Stable’ while reaffirming the rating at ‘CRISIL A’.    The outlook revision reflects the strengthening of the financial risk profile of the company from the recent equity infusion of Rs.640 Cr by the existing investors while the business performance continues to remain robust with a steady and sustained stabilization of the recently added centres. The equity infusion would fuel growth over the medium term through the addition of new centres, both the greenfield and acquisition way, however, with no major debt addition. The group is estimated to grow at over 30% CAGR in the current fiscal while the growth would witness acceleration over the coming fiscals with the addition and scaling up of centres.  The group has a strong presence in the eye care segment with 149 centers (as on June 30, 2023) across domestic and international destinations. With a long vintage of close to 30 years, the group has built an established market position and healthy brand recall. As a result, the group has been able to report a compounded annual growth rate of 24 percent over the past three years, to Rs.1009 crore in fiscal 2023. During this period, the group has witnessed an increase in operating margins to around 24% from 16.8%, supported by break-even of new centers and increasing footfalls at its existing centers. Further, the group recently raised funds through existing investors, which is expected to be utilized for expansion by the addition of new centers as well as ramp-up in its existing centers. The same is expected to support the improvement in business risk over the medium term.  CONCLUSION The company has a professional management, Prof. Dr. Amar Agarwal, who is a M.S. Hungary’s Largest Hospital Investment Ready for Handover. The new 112-bed hospital block will soon start its operational tests. After the finishing touches have been done, the furniture will be put in place in the new ward of the Fejér County Szent György University Teaching Hospital, says Magyar Építők in a video, shared about the progress of work on Hungary’s largest hospital development currently underway. The construction of the new building of the Fejér County Szent György University Teaching Hospital is one of the most important projects not only in Székesfehérvár (central Hungary) but also in the region, writes Világgazdaság. The investment is financed with HUF 14 billion (EUR 35 million) of public funds. Fejér-B.Á.L. Zrt. and Épkar Zrt. are working together on the three-and-a-half-story block, where the operational tests can start in the summer. The new 112-bed, 64-ward hospital building will house a pulmonary department in addition to the internal medicine department, but will also treat patients with cancer and infectious diseases. The Magyar Építők crew filmed on site, and in their video they show the outside of the building, where the cladding is now almost completely in place, and the ongoing work on the inside. The hospital previously provided a numerical summary of the details of the monumental building: the building will have a useful floor area of 6 113,5 m², it will have 64 hospital rooms with 112 beds, 25 percent of the rooms will be single and 75 percent double, natural light will enter through 149 windows and 218 m² of glass walls. The ASEAN region, with its diverse economies and populations, presents a myriad of opportunities in the healthcare sector. As countries within this bloc aim to improve healthcare outcomes, there's a growing interest from international investors to contribute to this vital industry. The healthcare assets across ASEAN range from hospitals and clinics to pharmaceutical companies and medical technology startups, all of which are crucial in meeting the healthcare needs of over 650 million people. Among ASEAN nations, Vietnam has emerged as a particularly attractive destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) in healthcare. This trend raises the question: Why does Vietnam attract more healthcare investments compared to the Philippines, another promising economy in the region? A significant factor contributing to Vietnam's advantage is its economic policies. Vietnam has been implementing reforms to open up its economy to foreign investors. These reforms include easing ownership restrictions, improving the ease of doing business, and offering incentives for foreign investments. The Vietnamese government has recognized healthcare as a key sector for development, leading to policies that encourage not only domestic but also international investments to modernize its healthcare infrastructure and services. On the other hand, the Philippines has faced challenges in attracting similar levels of FDI in healthcare. A primary reason is its protectionist constitution, which imposes restrictions on foreign ownership in certain sectors, including healthcare. While these policies aim to safeguard national interests, they have inadvertently made it more challenging for foreign investors to fully engage in the country's healthcare sector. Although there have been discussions and proposals to amend these restrictions, progress has been slow, leaving the Philippines at a competitive disadvantage compared to its ASEAN neighbors. Moreover, bureaucratic hurdles and inconsistent policy implementation further complicate the investment climate in the Philippines. These factors, combined with the protectionist stance, contribute to the perception of a less favorable investment environment compared to Vietnam. The contrast between Vietnam and the Philippines in attracting FDI in healthcare underscores the impact of economic policies on shaping investment landscapes. For the Philippines to compete more effectively and attract much-needed investments in its healthcare sector, it may need to consider policy reforms that create a more inviting environment for foreign investors.
