✈️ Shifting Winds in Aviation! In an industry where prompt service and quick turnover are key, delays in the maintenance supply chain can be detrimental. But the ever-evolving aviation sector has proven once again that it can turn challenges into opportunities through creative sourcing strategies. ✈️ According to data, there's been a worrying increase in lead times for aircraft component suppliers, with one wheel and brake components provider going from an average lead time of 38 days in 2019 to a peak of 146 days in 2022. Yet, by December 2023, this was efficiently brought down to around 49 days. ✈️ This increase in lead times has naturally sparked a conversation in the airlines sector on how components are distributed. Are they reserved for brand new aircraft or maintenance of in-service fleets? Turns out, it's a strategic game. "One airline reported that manufacturers are strategically reserving components to enable companies to prioritize supplying parts for new aircraft or for maintenance as needed." - says the report. However, ordering parts after the aircraft have been taken out of service can increase the time it takes to complete maintenance. Yet, challenges only foster innovation right? The aviation industry is now turning to novel approaches for sourcing strategies, demonstrating creativity where we least expect it - within the supply chain!
