📣 2 more Swiss researchers selected for funding under the flagship ASPIRE program  🗾 A sincere congratulations to two more Swiss recipients of the major funding opportunity from Japan! We also thank the SNSF Swiss National Science Foundation for the additional funding the Swiss researchers will now be eligible for. We wish our top scientists much success in their endeavors.   In the field of #Energy, Prof. Dr. Thomas Lippert, Head of Group, Team Thin Films and Interfaces, Paul Scherrer Institute with Prof. Motonori Watanabe, Associate Professor, International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I2CNER), Kyushu University will investigate on the project “Study of organic-inorganic composite interfaces for fast charge transport on photoelectrolysis device”. Prof. Dr. Bernd Bickel, Professor, Center for Augmented Computational Design in Architecture, Engineering and Construction, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zürich) alongside Prof. Jean-Marie Normand and Prof. Kaan Aksit will join Prof. Yuto Itoh from the Université de Tokyo for research on “Seamless reality: a technological foundation for merging cyber-physical spaces through real world-oriented avatars”, in the field of #AI and #Information. The Adopting Sustainable Partnerships for Innovative Research Ecosystem (#ASPIRE) is a new, major funding opportunity initiated by the Japanese government to support large-scale international joint research in cutting-edge fields between Japan and countries with high standards of science and technology. Today the priorities of the next European Commission term have been announced. The stakes are high and so are the ambitions to build a sustainable and competitive European high-tech ecosystem. The work we are doing at ImpaQT UA to accelerate the quantum market in Europe and to build European quantum value chains will be a test of how innovation policy and strategic investments play out in a real environment for Europe’s future. With economic security taking a lead position in the framing of future policy actions in the EU I have joined CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies) as an Associate to advance key debates around quantum technologies in this new term.

As a pivotal element of the European Commission's strategy for promoting circular and environmentally sustainable products, the legislation introduces the innovative Digital Product Passport (DPP). This digital interface will offer comprehensive information on each product, covering its ingredients, manufacturing processes, certifications, and end-of-life options. As Gaelle Le Gars says: "At "implementation" level, the DOSS product passport can shine if it can be made/said to fill a gap in the materialization of the information requirements." I admit it took reading the CRA and the excellent JRC mapping/gap analysis of related standards to fully grasp its potential. “

Call for proposals on applied quantum technologies – open for Dutch and Singaporean companies!   Organisations from 16 countries, including the Netherlands and Singapore, looking to collaborate on international R&D projects in the field(s) of applied quantum technology, can now apply for funding through Call for proposals on applied quantum technologies. R&D project applications for this call for projects can be submitted between 1 February 2024 and 9 May 2024. The project consortium must include organisations based in a minimum of two of the countries listed in this call. The Netherlands application must be submitted by a Netherlands for profit company. Other Netherlands organisations, such as universities and research organisations, can join the Netherlands consortium as a project partner. Enterprise Singapore supports Singapore companies and their overseas partner to collaborate on R&D projects which result in new products or solutions with strong market potential. Here's a truly exciting collaboration in a world of political tensions and geopolitical challenges, when the focal point is medical devices, whose home turf for many danish companies is already set on the international stage. This naturally requires that EU horizon programs also establish international collaborations for medical devices and strengthen regulatory cooperation. Research and innovation is an important area that Dansk Standard is also working to strengthen through the European standardization strategy and with the upcoming revision of the management and quality standard ISO 13485 in 2025, we will of course follow the work closely in order to increase active participation from Danish stakeholders.
