I’m here to lead the fair-chance movement. This is more than a job; it’s my calling. I was created to help millions of people find hope, redemption, and ultimately, self-actualization. I’m not just a talking head. I’m a builder and a doer, as capable as anyone, but with more grit. Honest Jobs is used by hundreds of thousands of justice-impacted people every month to connect with fair-chance employers and critical resource providers nationally. I’m proud of what my team has accomplished, but we have even bigger dreams that are clearly within reach: - Empowering every incarcerated person to come home with a high-quality and up-to-date reentry plan - Partnering with education and upskilling organizations to increase career mobility - Building solutions to housing barriers through partnerships and in-house solutions - Building industry-specific coalitions to build trust and drive change - Providing quality training to employers, reentry professionals, community corrections, and justice-impacted individuals - Advocating for policies that reduce unnecessary collateral consequences - And more. #GodsPlan #FairChance #SecondChance #HonestJobs

That's why this #NationalForgivenessDay, we want to remind employers to keep an open mind and focus on a person's potential, not just their resume. At Expedient Staffing, we believe in second chances and skills-based hiring. By forgiving past missteps and investing in training, you can unlock a wealth of untapped talent. In fact, some of our most successful team members were once homeless. A forgiving approach to hiring can be the key to building a diverse, high-performing team. 💪

Care Coordinator * Previous Marketing assistant, project manager, digital file manager, and design associate
Please celebrate with me! After almost of year of hard core job searching, I received and accepted a job offer from the Enkrateia House of Hope as their Care Coordinator. EHOH's mission is to provide a compassionate, caring and faith-centered shepherd home for homeless pregnant women during their pregnancy and after the birth of their children, assisting the women in learning the skills that foster self-sufficiency with a vision of hope for their future by upholding healthy lifestyles. My core responsibilities will be daily presence and support, house and guest management (maintain a home environment that promotes trust, peace, security, support, encouragement, and respect by being a supportive and loving presence in the home), managing the volunteer assistant's schedule, and a supportive role assisting with the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual development of each mom-to-be/mom and be informed about their schedule/to-do list, keeping them on track. As you can tell, this is going to be a complete shift of gears for me, but I look forward to the change, learning something new, and being a part of something that at the end of the day is more gratifying/meaningful than finishing a spreadsheet :) Job hunting was an excruciating process. Over 11+ months I spent hours each day looking at job postings. I sent out close to 100 applications that mainly ended in no one responding despite having more experience than required (applications likely went into cyberspace as at least 80% of the jobs posted had zero contact information listed for me to follow up). I never thought it would be this (unnecessarily) difficult in a time where we are supposedly experiencing staffing shortages. Trust me when I say 1- unless it's the service industry where the pay is $15/hour, there are NOT staffing shortages. The world of office professional workers is a talented saturated pool of people HUNGRY to work. Many times I was 1 of anywhere from 50-60 applicants, sometimes even as many as 200+ people. For LOCAL (not remote) jobs in the area. 2- ageism (age discrimination) is a real thing. I appreciated all the kind words of encouragement along this difficult journey and stage in my life. I have to admit though, that the words "a job will turn up soon" became hard to digest, because 'soon' came and went about 6 months ago. But I trust that I have landed in the right place.

“Individuals on the spectrum have many many strengths such as really good focus and attention to detail, being very productive, very intelligent and they have sometimes very different ways of thinking which are very valuable and needed in this world and the workplace.” My acquaintance, Susan, was recently interviewed for this article about the challenge of finding a job in the Okanagan for those on the autism spectrum. Worth a quick read and considering for your organization! https://lnkd.in/g2KAcE3J
https://lnkd.in/gcKWdFXU Find out how Ready, Willing and Able helps individuals on the autism spectrum find employment in the Okanagan, how Ready, Willing and Able works with employers, and the challenges some individuals on the autism spectrum face when looking for work. Thank you, Gabrielle Adams, for interviewing myself and my son Evan for this informative article, and thank you Rachel Copping, from the Kelowna Coast Capri Hotel, for sharing your positive experience with inclusive hiring and Ready, Willing and Able. I keep seeing and hearing people talk about photos being required during the application process. As a TA professional that’s been trained, studied, and appreciates initiatives regarding unconscious bias, I don’t understand companies requiring photos in an application process. It’s literally undoing all the previous work against ageism, racism, sexism, and any other effort to remove discrimination in the work force. I’m curious to know how others are navigating these requests. Please enjoy my go to photo regarding this, in my opinion, ridiculous requirement. #talentacquision #werehiring #opentowork #careergrowth #recruiter #unconsciuosbias

#LifeHack: work for Jewish organizations. This stat is the reason I have two resumes. One makes my Jewishness and connection to Israel clear. It is highly relevant to specific roles I may apply for. The other has no reference beyond two former employers being Jewish institutions. My maiden name is Italian. My married name is Scottish. I am not a traditionally observant Jew. I look like … most hiring managers. While recruiters may still assume my identity, it’s also known that many non-Jews work for Jewish organizations in roles that don’t require specific knowledge or pastoral care. JewishJobs.com is perhaps a lesser known search engine that has postings for events managers, graphic designers, facility directors, administrative staff and more roles that don’t require a Jewish education. #jewishlife #jewishjobs #religiousorganizations
