As members of law enforcement, we cannot be surprised that offenders (or possible offenders) do not comply with our orders…to me it’s kind of par for the course when you consider the population. What we can control is the training and the policies that can support officers who encounter these situations. Reading this article, some areas that are definitely ripe for deeper examination: Marsy’s Law and the Use of Force policies that outlines a vehicle as a form of deadly force. I don’t know all the facts of this case but my petition to officers are to use these examples and learn from them. We often say “don’t Monday morning quarterback” yet…the NFL pays people millions to do exactly that. What can you do differently if you encounter a situation like this? Two lives have been lost because of a stolen bottle of alcohol…when we swore an oath to serve and protect, is that what we imagined that we would be doing? #justicebyaction

"Several" adult males is NOW the standard M.O. for assaults & robberies in Honolulu & Waikiki area. This is exactly the reason that #HPD #JoeLogan needs to make CCW easier, and not more difficult. Punks are like dogs, they work in packs and they're attacking soft targets. 1. Pay attention to your surroundings. 2. avoid crowds when walking. 3. STAY OFF OF YOUR PHONE in public. 4. Purse stays strapped over shoulder securely, wallet stays in you pocket, not your hand. 5. Your hands should have keys, and pepper spray. Taser should be concealed but easily accessible. 6. Travel in pairs or groups whenever you can. 7. Speed & surprise is their main strategy, so pay attention, and don't be afraid to get loud, and draw attention. 8. Don't look like a victim.

If you actually read this short article, someone shoots at troopers during a traffic stop, then they find the car and the person fires at troopers and deputies some more, then they flee in their car and fire more rounds in the neighborhood. When they are finally stopped they fire more rounds at law enforcement, when their violence is finally stopped, and thankfully no bystanders are killed or injured. The headline in the story? “Pierce County deputies fatally shoot person near Spanaway” This is because activist groups scold and pressure the media to use “active voice”. It’s the same mentality behind their preferred phrases “police killings” and “those impacted by the criminal justice system”. It removes responsibility for the behaviors of criminals and suggests the police just decided to go out and kill someone- all the better to demonize law enforcement and create more division. These tactics just serve to further divide and reduce faith in institutions- the media and law enforcement both. Recognize it and see what is being implied. The fact is, heroic troopers and deputies did an extraordinary thing this week and stopped an extremely violent criminal- period.

Multiple companies both foreign and domestic are selling dangerous weapons on US streets. These weapons serve no practical purpose; they simply endanger the public. These companies refuse to screen buyers for mental illness or criminal records. Their weapons are used to kill Americans by the tens of thousands each year. Elected officials from #Congress down to state #legislators —from both parties— refuse to take any meaningful steps to rein in the carnage. The weapon is the car. The companies are #automakers. In this case, the specific weapon was a Chevrolet #Corvette from General Motors capable of reaching 150 MPH. The victims included young children. Guns are the number one cause of death for children ages 1 to 18 in the USA. Let’s focus on that as a problem to solve. Guns have only one purpose: to cause harm. Let’s keep kids away from guns and out of harm’s way. If you are a hunter or you feel you need a gun for protection then keep your guns locked away for your personal use only. Guns are not toys. So maybe we should stop making toy guns? Even water guns? What’s an action movie without guns? Soldiers use guns to keep us free, right? Video games have first-person-shooter perspective and people derive entertainment from that, right? Guns are everywhere in the USA. It’s just all these guns are not doing a whole lot of good. All these guns are doing a whole lot of harm. Dear Memphis, You are out of control. There is no easy fix to the rampant crime. Normal citizens want action, but the activists want police reform, softer, gentler, law enforcement and social initiatives to pacify the criminals, excuse previous criminal behavior, and accept a false narrative that tax payers should be responsible for character building. Soft hands will not STOP the criminal activity. kind hearts will not STOP bullets. Social activism will not STOP the thefts, assaults, and damage tomorrow. Defensive actions will not repel the assault on normal citizens and the citizens should not have to accept this kind of behavior.
