Sonya's death underscores the urgent need for accountability and meaningful reforms in our society. This episode, sadly reminiscent of many others, should propel us to address systemic racism and advocate for justice. Understanding and combating biases through comprehensive training programs focusing on cultural competency, community engagement, de-escalation techniques, and implicit bias are crucial steps. Equally important is educating the wider community to foster empathy, respect, and justice for all. Significant policy changes are imperative: transparent investigations, independent oversight bodies, and stringent measures to ensure justice for victims of racial violence. Today during a meeting of justice involved advocates, the discussion centered on White House clearance for justice involved individuals. My takeaway and stance on this matter are clear, despite the administration's acknowledgment of Second Chance Month through signed documents, and ceremonial events there's a glaring inconsistency. While advocates are granted clearance for meetings regarding their work, they're denied access to White House tours and special events. I can't help but point out the hypocrisy in this disparity, which undermines the sincerity of their support for second chances. This inconsistency not only affects access but also sets a tone for departments that continue to fail justice involved individuals, both while incarcerated and during their attempts to reintegrate into society. It's a systemic issue that needs to be addressed at all levels of government. #FairChance #Secondchancemonth #SecondChances
