I remember my first class in the undergraduate course of Aquaculture Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, where the lecturer showed a graphic image in which the aquaculture production line was rising while the fishing line remained unchanged over the past years. The key part of the lecture was the promise that aquaculture would surpass fish production in some (maybe many) years. This was a fact that many would deny at the time. In fact, it became a reality, as proven by numbers in the latest FAO Report “The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2024”. My sincere acknowledgment goes to all aquaculture professionals (including biologists, veterinarians, biochemists, physicists, and other professionals working in the aquaculture market) who made this happen. Aquaculture is a multidisciplinary area, and this success was only possible through sustainability, which includes social, economic, and environmental aspects not forgetting key areas such as precision feeding, microbiology and production systems technologies.
