I had the privilege to co-chair a panel discussion with Daniel Donaldson this morning at IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting. A special thanks to the esteemed panel (Heide Caswell , Davis Montenegro Martinez (EPRI), Mathaios Panteli (University of Cyprus), and Rahul Jha (ComEd)) for a great set of presentations and discussions today about the evolution of #DistributionSystemPlanning and importance of proactive planning for resilience and reliability! It's always encouraging to see diverse perspectives, including public utilities commission, utility, research and academia, come together to share knowledge and experiences and work together to develop the future grid! To quote Heide from today: "Go #Resilience, Go #Reliability and Go #GridModernization"

Mike Ellis from Global Talent Resources, Inc. did such a great job!! ⚡️🔌🔋🪫One of the students started out by doodling a sketch of Mike (actually pretty realistic 😁) but ended up with several pages of notes. And one said he wished he had heard Mike’s presentation before his senior year! If you are looking for a speaker on jobs in the electric grid space, or even a general presentation on what it takes to get a job, keep a job, or plan for a future job, he’s you guy!!
Thank you to Xuan Wu (from AES and Prof. at IUPUI) for giving me the opportunity to speak with his seniors and the local IEEE Chapter. #smartgrid #substation #electricity #GTRNOW #transmissionline #solarenergy #electricalengineering #powerindustry #windenergy #windpower #SRA #renewableenergy #SanfordRose

We’re 19 days out from IEEE PES T&D Conference & Exposition 2024 in Anaheim, California, but who’s counting! This week, we are bringing you the TranSwitcher®! The Southern States TranSwitcher® is a renewable intertie solution designed specifically for switching and protection of power transformers. Its unique design makes it ideally suited for distribution systems that intertie with solar farms as well as other distributed energy resources. The use of a “soft close” helps to minimize system voltage drops and potential ferro-resonance issues caused by the high inrush currents associated with DER transformer energization. Don’t forget our experienced team will be at our booth #5227 ready to answer any questions you may have about our products! We look forward to seeing you in California. #SouthernStates #SouthernStatesLLC #IEEE #IEEEPESTD #SSLLCIEEE #AccelerateTheGridOfTomorrow #IEEE2024 #countdown #tradeshow #conference #legacyproducts #ourproducts #TranSwitcher #inrushmitigation #powersolutions #utilitysolutions #anaheimca #hamptonga

I'm pumped about the opportunity to attend the IEEE Power & Energy Society Conference next week! These types of events never fail to energize both my personal and professional development. Gaining insight and perspective from the event and then carrying that momentum into our content always adds value to our message that can be passed throughout the workforce. A few concepts I consider when attending events and conferences: - Making new connections and strengthening existing ones. - Research speakers and session topics ahead of time. Allowing me time to actively listen and be present during the event. - Can I incorporate any information and insight taken from the event and make it a part of the podcast? - Are any exhibitors highlighting solutions or technology that is relevant to the workforce and/or our audience? - Be up to date on current topics and sports to engage in small talk. - Gather enough information to recap the event to the team and summarize the experience in a post. What did I leave out? Also, looking forward to meeting some new people within the industry. Be sure to let me know if you will be attending. #conference #power #culture #podcast #energy #discussions

Last week, the Royal Academy of Engineering’s National Engineering Policy Centre (NEPC), published their new report addressing “Rapid decarbonisation of the GB electricity system”. They stressed the need for focus, such as that given to the vaccines task force, in driving the major infrastructure and system transformation that is intrinsic to reaching the government’s 2030 clean energy goals. Transmission timelines and planning, grid connection queue delays and supply chain constraints were all highlighted as priorities. The report also looked at changes to a future energy system beyond 2030, that requires action this decade, including expanding carbon capture and storage projects and achieving progress on hydrogen transmission. Conrad Energy is proud to be a part of that solution, investing in batteries and exploring the opportunities offered by hydrogen. I will be at IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) T&D Conference today representing Riggs Distler along with executive leaders from Linetec Services and National. We’ll be joining the Transmission and Distribution community in conversation and education surrounding the support of a reliable, resilient energy grid in America. We believe teamwork is the cornerstone of progress. By fostering open communication, leveraging diverse perspectives, and embracing cutting-edge technologies, we're able to construct energy infrastructure that meets the highest standards of reliability and efficiency and minimizes environmental impact. By aligning our efforts with the climate goals of our clients, we're not only building a stronger, more resilient power grid but also driving meaningful progress towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy landscape for generations to come. Stop by and see us at IEEE Booth 6666 to learn more today. #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #Innovation #EnergyConstruction #PowerGrid

🎉🎉🎉 I'm very excited to announce the publication of our latest (and my very first) journal article in Frontiers for Energy Research: Unified Dispatch of Grid-Connected and Islanded Microgrids. Frontiers is an open-source publisher and this work is available to view for free at: https://rb.gy/m0cwoh Our work develops a robust microgrid dispatch algorithm with a unified approach to: a) operate in grid-connected mode for minimized cost, b) operate in islanded mode to maximize resilience during electric utility outages, c) couple grid-connected dispatch decisions with resilience in-mind to improve the chance to ride-through an unforeseen utility outage. With our unified approach, demonstrated on a large military installation use-case, microgrid operations were shown to maintain operating costs while significantly improving resilience: ⬇ Annual Operating Cost (-0.1%) ⬇ Unserved Energy (-94.1%) ⬆ Survivability (+3.9%) ⬆ Autonomy (+16.7%) Special thanks to James Nelson, Nathan Johnson, and ASU Laboratory for Energy And Power Solutions (LEAPS) for your support, mentorship, and knowledge to complete this work.

Will the power sector experience labor shortages? Electricity demand will always be on the rise due to population or demand growth, increase demand for electric vehicles among other factors. This magazine provides more insights into achieving carbon neutrality with reduced labor force. Page 20 + I like the comparison between current power grids and future power grids on page 26. Get it and enjoy the trends in power systems. Received my copy yesterday. Thanks IEEE Power & Energy Society and all the contributors.

🔊Summer Appointment on 08/08/24- Stakeholders webinar on the ERAA methodologies 👉The ERAA (European Resource Adequacy Asessment) as set in the 2019 Electricity Regulation investigates whether the electricity system has sufficient resources to meet demand in the coming decade which sets us on a net-zero pathway. 👉The ERAA is based upon state-of-the-art methodologies and probabilistic assessments, aiming to model and analyse possible events which can adversely impact the balance between supply and demand of electric power. 👥Stakeholders are invited to join this webinar that will provide an overview of the methodological refinements in ERAA 2024. After ERAA 2023 report was published and later approved with amendments by ACER a further methodological refinements were prepared for ERAA 2024 as project to enhance quality even further. 🧠Remind that the ERAA exercise will be an important element for supporting qualified decisions by policy makers on strategic matters such as the introduction of capacity mechanisms, so… ...Join the co-creation of the energy transition!
