Today is Manufacturing Day. It started 11 years ago to bring awareness to our hidden industry and ensure the perceptions and awareness of career pathways was an image reflective of today and tomorrow’s reality. At that time, manufacturing, along with IT and healthcare, was struggling with an adequate pipeline of talent. Here it is in 2023, and I was flying home last night to the message from my daughter’s middle school apologizing for a delay getting the kids home due to a driver shortage. The people shortage is no longer just healthcare, IT and manufacturing – it is arguably every sector. This has an increased impact on our industry. Despite the great work thousands have done since 2012, the importance of opening your doors to young people or sparking interest in your community or school has never been greater. Thank you for all you have done — and continue to do — to bring manufacturing top-of-mind with the next generation of talent.
