Canal Corridor race report alert! Just a little over a month to go until I take on my AutismUp 1:44 Challenge, I just finished my first 100-mile race! This was a real test of whether I believed running 144 miles would really be feasible. It certainly was hard (I dealt with injury and inclement weather at various points), and it's surreal to be running for almost 29 hours. But finish it I did, and along with earning my first belt buckle (the traditional award for 100-mile races), I also qualified for the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run for the second time! Like all of my ultramarathons, I don't do this alone, and without the support of my crew, and the volunteers along the course, this would be impossible (or at the very least, miserable). The best pacers are not unlike the best mentors: - They have experience in the endeavor you are trying to accomplish. - They encourage you to put forth your best performance (since they can't "mule" for you, you still have to carry the full load yourself). - They provide actionable feedback on your condition and the changing environment in a constructive way. - They know your personality and your tendencies, so they can prompt you in the way that is most likely to motivate you to achieve your goal. Another way to put it is there is no one size fits all, and everyone's experience is going to differ, even if you are all following the same trail. It's also important to recognize that you yourself are changing as the event is ongoing. Learning to be adaptable to not just what's going on around you but also within puts you in the best position to succeed. Click on the image below if you want to read more about how my race went!

While this ACEM/FEMA/FIM Manifesto specifically applies to EU motorcycling, several keystones are relevant to address other transport systems, such as: - the need to include powered two wheelers from the very beginning of #transport #planning and #policies; - the need to recognize PTWs' role in the transport system; - the importance to consider PTW users as vulnerable road users (#VRUs) and dedicate the necessary public means to improve their safety on roads. To this end, the #safesystemapproach remains one of the best tool to address PTWs' mobility and safety challenges. #ptwsafety #ptwmobility #safesystemapproach

Do the Dutch Reach. 🚘✋👀 The latest GB Highway Code update introduced a simple rule to avoid car-dooring: whether you're a driver or passenger, simply open the car door with the hand furthest from it in order to spot approaching cyclists. Please share this post to spread awareness. 📸: Dave Walker
