The Welsh Government, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050, supports these efforts with initiatives such as a £6.5 million Circular Economy fund. CEIC Wales has developed a map outlining specific regions within Wales where these initiatives are active (see: https://lnkd.in/eUBN3Ciw). 👋 Dr Gary Walpole   Key Initiatives: ▪ Technological Advancements: Features the adoption of material passports to enhance recycling processes and the deployment of photovoltaic panels to ensure reliable, low-maintenance energy production. ▪ Construction Strategies: Emphasizes designs that allow for disassembly, promoting material reuse, and sustainable retrofitting that modernizes existing structures while preserving cultural heritage and extending building life cycles. ▪ Transportation Solutions: Encourages car-sharing schemes and the adoption of electric vehicles to reduce emissions and operational costs, alongside reducing the reliance on privately owned vehicles. ▪ Waste Management Approaches: Implements Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) systems, transforms food waste into biogas, manages stormwater effectively, and explores innovative CO2 capture technologies. The initiatives proposed for South Wales showcase the region's potential for successful transformation towards net-zero. Future research should prioritize longitudinal studies and broader stakeholder engagement to further validate and refine these initiatives. The central idea of this economic system is to keep products and materials in circulation and increase their life cycle as much as possible through reuse, repair, refurbishing, composting, and recycling to avoid waste and promote regeneration. Additionally, coconut husks provide effective insulation, reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling.
