For our research report, 'The Digital Wave', we surveyed seafarers and found that on average, they are relying on digital tools for around five hours per day. Naturally, their internet access is used for both work and leisure. When at work, seafarers use connectivity to gain insight into ship performance, improve operational efficiency and enhance safety. This article explores how crews are increasingly relying on data and connectivity to complete their daily tasks and make better decisions for safety and efficiency, and delves into how new connected digital technologies are enabling vessels to operate more and more like floating homes and offices. 🌊 News from the Conference: There is a connectivity revolution underway at sea, however, many shipowners and managers seem to have an issue when it comes to trusting their seafarers when it comes to using the internet. Giving an idea of the scale of this revolution Nick Chubb, Strategy Director for Thetius, presented fascinating findings at Seatrade Maritime CrewConnect Global: A survey for HFW and CyberOwl revealed that of 73 shipowners, 43% were planning to roll out LEO services in the next 12 months. Separately some 7,000 ships are already reported to have LEO connectivity. So, this is all good right?
