UK-Be Maritime Innovation Day Navigating the future of port operations requires a wave of talent equipped with new skills, amidst a landscape where skilled labor is too scarce to meet the increasingly complexed requirements for port operations. The industry must address this skill shortage head-on, enhancing role attractiveness to entice new talent into the industry. To explore these critical issues, the Maritime Innovation event will convene experts from both the UK and Belgian side. It aims to strengthen partnerships and alliances to shape policy and promote the advancement of emerging technologies. …From 10 to 12 October 2023, the International Maritime Fair and Conferences BALTEXPO will take place in Gdańsk at AMBEREXPO. It will be the 22nd edition of Poland’s largest and oldest maritime industry event. The eyes of shipowners and shipyards will be focused on design offices, from which they expect proposals for new solutions to reduce CO2 emissions from the ships. This is a great opportunity for the Polish shipbuilding industry – there are currently dozens of modern and innovative design offices in Poland. Together with shipyards, they can create new products and thus lay the foundations for a new opening for our industry. Certainly, the BALTEXPO Fair will be a place of many interesting meetings, which – I hope – will result in joint projects in the near or distant future. The participation of start-ups is a novelty at BALTEXPO. Start-ups are crucial when it comes to innovations. And since we live in a time of breakthrough, which is the decarbonization of shipping and the intensifying arms race, new ideas go to the fertile soil. If they are well prepared, then they have a chance for quick implementation. The maritime economy in Poland has been experiencing extremely dynamic development in recent years. Prospects for the coming years are also very exciting, and the BALTEXPO Fair has a chance to become another strong development impulse for the maritime industry and the Pomeranian region…

📣 #UICrail was in Korea last week for several events, notably its 36th Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, the 22nd UIC Asia-Pacific Management Committee (APMC), the UIC - KORAIL Workshop on Best Practices of High-Speed Line Operation in Asia-Pacific, and the first Scientific Committee of the UIC High-Speed Congress planned to be held in Beijing in 2025. ➡️ All these meetings were organised at the invitation of KORAIL as part of the celebrations for the 20th #anniversary of the HSR in Korea, bringing together UIC members from the Asia Pacific region as well as from Europe and the USA. ➡️ In addition to the warm welcome, it is worth noting the special attention given by Korail to UIC members and the interest in the technical and cultural visits. In his report, UIC APRA Chairman HAN Moon Hee emphasised the importance of UIC's work on #standardisation with the support of the region, and the strong #commitment of regional members to develop regional projects. Key messages delivered by UIC APRA Chairman HAN Moon Hee, and UIC Director General François DAVENNE, also highlighted the global challenges and opportunities in rail transport, focusing on decarbonisation, digitalisation, and safety culture. ➡️ The project activities of APRA were presented by Philippe Lorand, Coordinator of the UIC Asia-Pacific region. 🚄 The workshop on High-Speed Line Operation in the Asia-Pacific region tied in with the 20-year anniversary of high-speed lines in Korea. Key messages were delivered by Eungdae Lee, Deputy Director, International Cooperation Department, KORAIL Bertrand MINARY, UIC Passenger Director, Coordinator of the UIC Middle-East & Latin America regions. The workshop was very enriching, both in terms of the topics covered and the cross-discussions between Asia, Europe, and other regions.
