"𝑬𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆 - 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 !?" During the Verband deutscher Unternehmerinnen e.V. (VdU)’s General Annual Meeting in Berlin, Almut Bühling and Pamela Stenzel, the two Co-Chairs of the #VdU_IK, engaged with panelists to explore what makes the EU a driver of innovation. Dr HC Marie Christine OGHLY (President Femmes Chefs d'Entreprises Mondiales - FCEM), Katrin Eissler (CEO of Spedition Neuner GmbH & Co. KG GmbH & Co.KG), and Gosia Binczyk (Deputy Head Repr. EU Commission DE) shared their insights on why a strong and innovative Europe is a key factor for sustainable business relationships, as well as for a stable, peaceful and democratic world 🌎. Together they concluded unanimously, that promoting 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 is key, and Europe supports this in multiple ways, because: 1.   We all benefit from the 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬, 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 within the European internal market. 2.   Sharing 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 (not just business-related ones) facilitates strong relationships that in turn create 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬. 3.   The EU actively promotes 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 between the original (Western) member states and the more recently acceded (Eastern) member states. 4.   The EU enhances 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬 that are solution-oriented and based on a hands-on approach.   🔜 We will enforce our regular meetings among female business leaders Femmes Chefs d'Entreprises Mondiales - FCEM to 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 among female entrepreneurs. From the perspective of our Women in Business Network - WIB outside of Europe, Azza Mahfouz and Astou Dia concluded that in their opinion the key to success is 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠. Today, associations are commonly accepted as the great unifiers of society, and the role between their sectors, groups and members follows a logic of value and representation. They clearly need to acquire a broad understanding of the benefits and added value that events bring not only to their members but also to the environment in which they operate. It's not just about setting goals and meeting them; it's about continuous improvement and constant progress towards building a better association and creating more value and impact for our members, employees and other stakeholders. In this issue of HQ, we set the tone for exciting discussion around the social, economic, political and environmental ramifications of our meetings industry, and showcase the best and diverse examples and practices for achieving them. We spoke to the heads of the INTERNATIONAL PAPILLOMAVIRUS SOCIETY - IPVS about the ICCA Seed Fund grant allocated to their legacy programme for the 2024 conference in Edinburgh; we covered more than 60 years of growth in the business events sector with ICCA CEO Senthil Gopinath; and dissected the concept of association and the multiple scenarios and common challenges with association expert Belinda Moore. Au revoir, Paris! Now back in Stockholm after five intensive days of meetings, panels and socialising against that fab backdrop that is the French capital. My take-aways this year include: -that, yet again and because of the uncertainty that surrounds us, the importance of lawyers and the rule of law came up frequently and very naturally in our conversations; -that, by and large, law firms seem to be doing pretty well - something to be very humble about in these difficult times; -that all things energy were one of this year's key themes; -that firms were typically less advanced than I'd thought would be the case in their AI-endeavours (a bit surprising given that there's some really cool stuff out there); -that I met more impressive women at this conference than ever before, not least IBA President Almudena Arpón de Mendívil Aldama, but also a new generation of brilliant younger women; -that lawyers know how to put on fantastic breakfasts/lunches/dinners/parties and keep their energy levels high throughout - what a life skill; -that the sprint that is the IBA week makes you very proud of your team; and -that Vinge means "cool" in Estonian slang.
