Is your company veteran and military friendly? Around one-quarter (25%) of veterans note that adjusting to civilian workplace culture is difficult. Many organizations promote themselves as military friendly, which could help employers retain veteran workers. According to a recent survey, Indeed found that 75% of respondents at “military ready” organizations want to stay at their current company. How hard is it for military spouses to work in federal government? VERY.💡Let’s do some math. 🧮 The US federal government—the largest employer in the country—employs 2.1 million people. The US workforce is 167.7 million. 🇺🇸 2.1 million = 1.25% of 167.7 million That means roughly 1.25% of the US workforce is employed by Uncle Sam. 📈 According to the White House, there are 16,000 military, veteran and surviving spouses employed by the federal government. There are approximately 12 million military, veteran and surviving spouses in the US. 16,000 = 0.133% of 12 million That means the US government employs about 0.133% of those spouses. 📉 So, 0.133% compared to 1.25% Are military, veteran and surviving spouses really that underrepresented within the federal government? 🤨 They are almost 10x less likely to be employed by the US federal government than the average, according to my math. Even with ballpark estimates, this is an eye opener. (Standard disclaimer: PR major doing math in public) How well are those federal hiring programs really working?
