In a search for inspiration, I recently finished Jon Gertner's book, The Idea Factory, which detailed the rise and fall of Bell Labs (as it was known) from the 1920s through present day.
It chronicled some of the personalities, projects, and inventions that came from the fabled labs, but there was one that caught my eye.
The original transistor.
This is such a foundational device that today most people probably aren't even aware of what it is or what it does.
Then I read this press release from NVIDIA.
208 *BILLION* transistors on a single chip.
As the adoption of AI grows, the need for sheer computational power will continue to increase, but the difference in reading about the first transistor, switching between On/Off...
...to 75 years later, we packed over 200 billion onto a chip so small we wouldn't be able to see it with the naked eye, is staggering.
And the rate of technological advances only continue to speed up.
I think it's safe to say, I found the inspiration I was looking for.
