While the intention here is clearly for careers in sports and olympic dreams to be more achievable for everyone, we should follow closely the progress of this app and model so it doesn't introduce bias to scouting. Weighting some physiological traits unfairly against others is a risk when training any AI, but more so a visual one. This is specially important for sports that already have a big bias against the "ideal" characteristics of their participants. The IOC could benefit from starting to work on an AI ethics chart to go alongside this exciting big AI push within the organization. Love the progress here tho, and the implications for countries with no sporting culture (ex-athletes, coaches, infrastructure) is huge! Let's go IOC! Higher, Faster, Stronger. 🔥♥️

Computer Vision To Detect Olympic Athletes? 🏃♂️🤖 -> Senegal 🇸🇳 x Intel 💡 are on it! Senegal, has medaled only once at the Olympic Games — back in 1988. 🥇 Here’s why: The Senegalese National Olympic Committee, in partnership with Intel, is using AI to identify young athletes in rural areas who might have so far flown under the radar. 🌍🤖 They visited five villages across the West African country and asked 1,000 kids to participate in a series of physical challenges. 🏋️♂️🏃♀️ AI-powered sensors then helped them identify 40 children who exhibited “significant talent.” 🎯🏅 But that’s not all.
