What is COV Connect? COV Connect is Vacaville’s newest outreach program, created to provide a service-based approach to help connect the city with local communities. COV Connect aims to support each of the City Council's five strategic plan goals: Goals #1 Ensure Public Safety Initiative 1A: Manage Changing Paradigm for Police Initiative 1B: Manage the increasing call volume for Fire and EMS Goal #2 Strengthen the Local Economy Initiative 2A: Articulate a current Economic Development Program Initiative 2B: Manage Impacts from Growth Goals #3 Protect Vacaville’s Quality of Life Initiative 3A: Promote Housing for All Goals #4 Maintain Effective and Efficient Services Initiative 4A: Ensure Fiscal Sustainability Initiative 4B: Rebuild City Support Services – Information Technology, Finance, Human Resources, and Risk Management Initiative 4C: Build a Positive Organizational Culture and Workforce Goals #5 Promote Community Engagement and Increased Equity and Inclusion As the program grows, stay tuned for more ways to collaborate with city staff in your neighborhoods and districts.

One of the initiatives that I worked on this year was the relaunch of Tyson Foods' Community Giving Program. The programs redesign looks to scale projects, programs and initiatives within our #TeamTyson communities to generate positive community outcomes and realign relationships between the plant facility and the local organization. Additional changes to the program include the following— -The creation of a quarterly giving cycle -Updates to our grant application -Implementation of a community giving steering committee -Focus on DEI by prioritizing programs that demonstrate geographic and programmatic diversity, and who operate in underserved, marginalized, or rural areas -Development of a Power BI Dashboard to better track our investments, and inform our future decision making -Our intentionality to include, listen to, and amplify, the voices of our team members by taking recommendations from plant management for grant applications that are submitted in their community Learn more about our philanthropic strategy here: https://lnkd.in/gkm5Uyui

Last week I spent a full day with the leadership team of Presbyterian Senior Living in Dillsburg PA. as one of our activities, I’d asked each of PSL’s 30 communities to bring a decorated pickle jar to help us launch The Pickle Challenge for Charity. I said that I would use my own arbitrary and capricious criteria to select winning entries for categories that I would create. I was blown away by their creativity! These are just a few of the contest entries. They weren’t just decorated pickle jars – they were artistic creations! Not only that, many of the participants also had Pickle Free Zone t-shirts, hats, and other paraphernalia. The pickle jar decorating contest is typically the first activity in launching The Pickle Challenge for Charity. Making people more aware of their own negative attitudes, including chronic complaining, is an important step toward creating a more positive Culture of Ownership. The Pickle Challenge is fun, it’s free, and it gives people a soft-touch, lighthearted way to hold themselves and each other to higher standards of behavior at work. “Why can’t Tun Tavern once again stand in Philadelphia?”  We wanted to provide everyone an update on the status of the rebuilding of The Tun TODAY, the idea of rebuilding The Tun originated in 2015. While there had been earlier attempts to rebuild the tavern, none were like this. Past attempts did not include the other organizations that can trace their origins to The Tun. Once the decision was made to “rebuild”, the other organizations were contacted, & a “coalition” was formed with all 6 organizations with a heritage at Tun Tavern: Pennsylvania Freemasons, Society of Saint George, Saint Andrews Society, Sons of Saint Patrick, USMC & USN. In 2021, the search for a location commenced, to give The Tun’s eventual patrons the experience of colonial Philadelphia. The land chosen is currently a parking lot, about 250 yards from the original location.  From the start organizers insisted that the re-established Tun should be a functioning tavern, but operate as a non-profit with all operating profits donated to veteran charities, masonic charities, & scholarships.  “Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation”,  was formally created in February 2021, & registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with the stated mission “To rebuild & re-establish The Tun™ as it was, a functioning mariner’s tavern reminiscent of colonial Philadelphia, serving period-influenced refreshments, food, entertainment & offering an educational experience through exhibits, historical documents, & special events.”  The Foundation, headquartered in Philadelphia, with representation on its Board of Directors from each of the six “coalition” organizations, is tasked with the rebuilding of The Tun, oversee its management, & the eventual distribution of profits to veteran, masonic, and educational charities. Since the creation of the Foundation, progress has been considerable. In October 2023, an Agreement of Sale was signed to purchase the required land. In November 2023, an architect, engineer, and construction manager were formally under contract. In December of 2023 the Board of Directors were ratified and adopted the Foundation’s formal bylaws.  While the bulk of the historical research has been accomplished, ongoing research continues for clarification purposes. Initial environmental testing has also been completed & a zoning application is currently being readied for submission.  While much has been accomplished to ensure the completion of this goal, there is much remaining. In February 2024, we are set to close the land deal; June 2024 the design, zoning and permitting is on schedule to be completed. The goal is to have the groundbreaking and construction begin in November 2024 with the grand opening, 10 November 2025. We are now in full fund-raising mode.
