Like him or loathe him, we can learn something about hiring from Davd Warners cricket career. Warner was the first Australian cricketer in 132 years to be selected to play for Australia in any format without experience in first-class cricket. Now, selectors could have said "no, you MUST have played first-class cricket to be selected for Australia", and while that is the route almost ALL players travel, it (clearly) was not compulsory. They didn't NEED someone who had played first-class cricket, what they NEEDED was someone who could get the job done. And the stats don't lie, he got the job done. Yes he did a few other things too, we all know that. So before you choose not to consider someone because they don't have the (often arbitrary) required number of years experience - ask yourself if you really NEED someone with that many years experience, or do you NEED someone who can do the job. Yes, sometimes you might have to train someone, and sometimes you may have the capability / capacity / time. That's a whole other thing. But the worlds of business, and sport, are littered with examples of people giving someone a crack based on potential and hunger, who have seen those people go on to do AMAZING things. Maybe you could be one of those people.

ARE CRICKETERS FRIENDS OFF THE FIELD ? Many people ask me this question. The answer to this question is YES and NO. YES some of them may hang with each other once in a while and a few like Shubman and Ishan might be close friends but most Cricketers have their own exclusive circle of few friends from their hometown or it is their business partners. We assume that guys who have played decades with each other and have shared the best moments of their life together, winning World Cups together would be the bestest of friends. But that is not the case . The great Aussie teams of the past who won everything were not the bestest of friends. On the contrary many had huge differences with each other. What I observed of successful teams was whatever the differences between team members was, there was CRICKETING TRUST ( WANTING TO WIN )amongst each other … My takeaway from this was … Great teams are built on TRUST between People and existence of TRUST doesn’t mean they LIKE each other but it means they UNDERSTAND each other, which aligns them to the GOAL OF WINNING. #Sathayeclasses

Every one is talking about IPL and every match is an eye opener with many stars rising daily. Now cricket is more tech-oriented with different strategies and plans by every team. The aim is to reach qualification and then win the trophy. People are talking about good captaincy, players' body language, response of the crowd, and what not. A good captain like Cummins or Sanju can take the team to greater heights. Teams with plan A and B can switch the game to their side even in the last over. In our profession too, good captaincy is the basis of the team's success. It gives birth to team spirit and enables each player to give the best result. When the captain leads with confidence, then the whole team blooms. You may have great players in the team but if the leader is weak, as we are witnessing in this IPL, then the whole team goes for a toss.

To all western coaches, administrators and cricket professionals; I would like your professional opinion on the following matter. If you are a gifted, hardworking and experienced professional Indian female cricketer who has been playing senior state cricket and even captained for a number of years, but has been unable to break through to the nasional or international level due to being repeatedly overlooked for selection based on criteria that has nothing to do with performance or playing potential and on top of that, you are committed to evolving your game even further by playing overseas as a professional in order to be exposed to a different and likely, a higher standard of performance behaviour and preparation, thereby increasing your knowledge and experience of cricket as a career, and you are then told that it will be almost impossible for you to be signed as an overseas professional, due to most clubs not hiring female players as overseas professionals, what in the world are you left to do to fulfill your dream of becoming the best player you can possibly be??
