In our journey towards a more inclusive and equitable world, we often encounter challenges that demand our dedication and innovation. A group of unsung heroes: #educators who tirelessly strive to provide education to #statelesschildren who have been denied even the basic right to formal education. These educators are on the front lines, breaking down barriers and opening doors of opportunity for children who have known only #exclusion and #marginalization. They embody the spirit of resilience and hope, offering not just lessons in math and language, but also a lifeline to a brighter future. Through #partnerships with local communities and innovative educational programs, we are working to ensure that every child, regardless of their legal status or background, has access to quality education. But we cannot do this alone. The challenge is great, but the potential impact is even greater. I invite you to join us in this crucial endeavor. Whether through advocacy, support initiatives, or spreading awareness, each of us has a role to play in shaping a more inclusive future. Together, we can empower educators to transform lives and provide hope where it is needed most. Let's ensure that no child is left behind, and that every child, regardless of their circumstances, can dream and achieve their full potential. #InclusiveEducation #TransformingLives #EmpowerEducators #HopeForTheFuture
🗣️“What makes me sad is that I can't help them. In school, we create a utopia, a fantasy, a hope. Come to school, get knowledge. But in reality, they can't go anywhere.” For the teachers of Malaysia’s learning centers, the line between offering encouragement and caution is a delicate one. Stateless children face limited employment opportunities after schooling, yet the pressure to ensure they don’t fall behind weighs heavily on educators. Speaking to Teacher Izad at our most recent teacher training event in Sabah, he explains: “I feel like I've lost motivation. So I need this to inspire me to keep going.” For this reason, providing community support and professional training is a key pillar of Calls Over Ridges’s educational action. Today we celebrate the second anniversary of our teacher training program’s launch. Starting from one secondary school with 13 teachers in Jiri, Nepal, just two years later we now have hosted events attended by 70 teachers, such as our 2-day event with the Coalition of Learning Centers Sabah last March. Thank you to everyone who helped us reach this significant milestone. Let's demonstrate our solidarity with teachers everywhere and express gratitude to those who have shaped our learning. #NGO #alternativeeducation #learningcenter #Sabah #Malaysia #CallsOverRidgesMalaysia

🐛 I help people & organisations, make sense of their experiences 🦋 For a more conscious & safer world for humanity 🌏
#throwback what I thought might be a 2-hour meeting turned out to be almost 6-hours! Impromptu meet-up with Phetmany Viyadeth and her Singapore partners, to recee a venue for the upcoming summer camp programme for the students that they are bringing over from Laos. It was a lovely space, still under refurbishing, and will be fully available by the time the students arrive. Located right in the middle of town! How convenient! Over lunch, we spent some time getting to know each other better, discussing in a bit more detail of the programme during the students’ stay. While I am mainly involved in the last week for each batch, to facilitate their learning then, I also offered to jump in here and there, in the initial weeks, to support in the regulation of discipline and setting some ground rules. We are about 1.5 months away from the first run. Will be settling in end of this month and/or early next month, to design the programme. There is a sense of excitement and nervousness, as it isn’t just about the content and learning to make easy/easier; it is also about the range of ages (8-16) and the language, as for most of them, this trip might be their first full-on exposure to the English language 😆 #makelearningeasy #makelearningeasier #facilitation #joyoflearning #joyofteaching #makeeasy #makeeasier #contracting #facilitatinglearning

As summer approaches and KIS International School launches its summer programmes , it's important to consider the significant role that summer camps play in complementing IB learning. These camps offer more than just recreational activities; they serve as an important setting for personal, skills and educational development. Participating in summer camps allows students to enhance skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, which are essential components of the IB curriculum. The social interactions at these camps not only enrich students' experiences but also prepare them for future academic, university, and personal endeavors. Summer camps also offer students the opportunity to explore new interests and deepen their engagement with subjects they are passionate about, aligning with KIS's commitment to nurturing passion. This exploration is vital for both personal growth and academic achievement. Research in education underscores the value of such experiential learning environments. These settings are shown to improve student engagement and learning outcomes, thereby supporting a holistic education. (Wilson, Cait & Sibthorp, Jim. (2018). Examining the Role of Summer Camps in Developing Academic and Workplace Readiness. Journal of Youth Development. 13. 83-104. 10.5195/JYD.2018.563.) As we look forward to summer, we should celebrate summer camps as a valuable part of our students' journey in a learner focused school, aiding in their preparation for future challenges and supporting the cultivation of their interests and social skills. #IBEducation #SummerLearning #NurturingPassion #AcademicPreparation #ExperientialLearning #inspiringindividuals 🟠 Register 👇 by April 30th for early bird discounts! https://lnkd.in/g5UdMXdf 🟢 NEW 💥 Bridge (English development) Camp https://lnkd.in/gFxkNw9J 🔵 NEW 💥 Young Global Leaders by Harvard Model Congress https://lnkd.in/gzqJdpjg

🍎👩🏫 Collaboration among educators fosters a dynamic learning environment, enriching students' experiences and promoting a holistic approach to education. This week, I and this fabulous team of educators took a group of international school students to iCamp Thailand to experience a variety of excellent outdoor learning activities. Teamwork makes the dream work, and this camp certainly wouldn't have been a success without the collective efforts of all involved. If you're interested in learning more about the benefits of outdoor education for children (with some practical ideas on how to implement this at your school), then this blog post is worth a read: https://lnkd.in/gFbUrh9P #outdoorlearning #teambuilding

Did you know that there is a district in Indonesia named Maybrat? I had just found out about it in August 2021 when I received an announcement that I would be assigned to work there for one year as an education facilitator. Maybrat is one of the districts in Southwest Papua. If you search for it on maps, you will find it is located in the eye of New Guinea. The districts can be reached in 4-5 hours from the gate of Papua: Sorong, which can be reached in around a 4-hour flight from Indonesia's current capital city, Jakarta. Compared to other districts in Papua, Maybrat can be included as one of the developed districts. It is already connected from the west to the east with the Trans Papua road. So, living there was not as challenging as I thought my Pengajar Muda (PM) journey would be. PM itself is a program initiated by Gerakan Indonesia Mengajar (GIM) that works by assigning young graduates to the rural areas of Indonesia to become education facilitators for one year. Since the program was released in 2010, it has already had 25 batches. I was joined in 2021 as part of the 21st batch. GIM itself dreams of inviting everyone to play a role in education based on their position and potencies. GIM believes that everyone in Indonesia should be responsible in seeking to realize the promise of Indonesia's independence: to make the life of the nation intelligent. That is why they invite young graduates from any major to work as an education facilitator. Hopefully, during their one year living in the rural area, as an educated person, they can empower local people to take a role and create initiatives related to, but not limited to, education there. So, did I successfully empower people in Maybrat to take a role and create initiatives related but not limited to education? I am still trying to figure it out. After reflecting on my journey while living there in the past year (yes, I need more than one full year to write this post finally!), I found that every effort I made to empower people I met there brought me unique and fascinating life lessons that I now cherish so much. Such as: I met a 29-year-old teacher named Jenneffree. She is not a Papuan, but since she graduated from a university in Ambon with a Bachelor's in Education in 2016, she went to Maybrat with full awareness to become a teacher. Through meeting her, I became aware of how to respond to technological developments in underdeveloped areas. You can read my story about her in this post: https://lnkd.in/g-EpX6yH She is just one of many great people who gave me superb lessons while living in Maybrat. You can read my other stories in my blog: https://lnkd.in/g2Dkn9ZC Through this post, I want to thank GIM for the opportunity that gave me many new experiences and lessons. My PM journey led me to a tipping point in life that helped me to find what I want to pursue in life.
