Yellow Edge appoints a Co-CEO Yellow Edge is delighted to announce the appointment of Victoria Appleby to the role of Co-CEO and as a Director of Yellow Edge. Our happiest congratulations to her for this. The Co-CEO role is a new role in Yellow Edge. It replaces the current CEO model with a model of leaderships that is different. This new role to be jointly held by Victoria and co-founder Andrew Simon is about: Joint or co-leadership. The Co-CEOs do not envisage dividing the role into exclusive areas of responsibility but approaching all company leadership responsibilities together. Participation: That the role entails both leaders participating actively and together in their responsibilities and accountabilities, together with the management team, all staff and our community. Role modelling other ways of leading: While co-ceo roles are not new in business, it is for Yellow Edge a way of role modelling a different way of leading. I gained $10,000 with this question. I was engaging with a potential sponsor for a regional Leadership Program I’m involved with. The key contact had shown early interest in financially supporting the program, but then they went quiet for a few weeks. I tried politely messaging and calling a few times, but no response. So I tried a technique from the book 📘Never Split The Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It. Chris Voss advocates for using No-Oriented Questions, particularly when a conversation has stalled. I took this direct approach with a fresh email and a new subject line that read: ▶ Would you be against a call about our Leadership Program? (Note the framing around being "against" something, rather than asking for a call) I received a reply from them that day, and this re-engagement ultimately lead to a $10,000 sponsorship. — I coach Professionals and Executives in their 20s & 30s to advance their careers. “He was that rare general who was great between battles and not just during them.” Many years ago, I read this quote by Ron Chernow, the renowned American historian as he wrote about General George Washington in his book ‘Washington: A Life’. As someone who has been leader and student of leadership for many decades, this spoke to such an important aspect of a leader, that of character. In an era of the social media influencer, we can sometimes see leadership as an exercise in visibility and you are defined by who and how many are watching you. But what this quote speaks to is what type of leader are you when no one is watching. It is often said that integrity is how you act when no one is watching and that this is a key test of character. The Future Geelong Leadership Awards are a chance for us as a community to recognise the leaders among us in our workplaces, our community organisations and in many other places. I cannot encourage people enough to nominate those people around you that you see as leaders, but moreso exemplify the character of someone whom you do or would follow. How many times do we take part in collaborations and not share the outcomes or ask others to hold us accountable for timely results? As our Chamber rolls out our "Pillars of Progress" and three new initiatives focused on DEI, workforce development and business advocacy in 2024, we must be held accountable. We intend to share out information through newsletters and social media, along with more direct communications to our businesses. We're striving to ensure a diverse group of leaders are part of all these collaborative networks to share out to their spheres of influence.
