🌆🛫 Exciting News! Heading back to Chicago in December for some inspiration! 🌟 As I prepare for my return to the vibrant city of Chicago, I'm reminded of the valuable lessons Tampa can draw from this urban hub. Here are a few key takeaways for our beloved Tampa to continue its path of progress: 1️⃣ Public Transit Accessibility: Chicago's extensive public transportation system makes it easy for residents and visitors to navigate the city efficiently. Investing in robust public transit options can enhance mobility and reduce traffic congestion in Tampa. 2️⃣ Promoting Arts and Culture: Chicago's rich cultural scene, from world-class museums to thriving local art communities, adds vibrancy to the city. Tampa can further support its own artistic community, creating spaces for creativity and cultural exchange. 3️⃣ Embracing Waterfront Development: Much like Tampa's beautiful Riverwalk, Chicago's Lakefront Trail is a testament to the value of well-designed waterfront areas. Tampa can continue to invest in and enhance its own waterfront spaces, creating hubs for leisure, recreation, and community gathering. 4️⃣ Mixed-Use Development: Chicago's downtown is a perfect blend of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces. Encouraging mixed-use developments in Tampa fosters a live-work-play environment, contributing to a more dynamic and sustainable urban experience. 5️⃣ Cultivating Green Spaces: Chicago's dedication to parks and green spaces offers residents a welcome respite from city life. Expanding and preserving green spaces in Tampa not only enhances quality of life but also contributes to a healthier, more sustainable city. Looking forward to bringing back fresh insights and ideas to contribute to Tampa's continued growth and prosperity! 🌆💡 Let's keep pushing for progress together! 🚀 #UrbanInspiration #CityImprovement #TampaDevelopment #ChicagoVisit #UrbanPlanning #LinkedInPost #CommunityEngagement

Recently, RD1 Spirits announced its plans to become a new highlight in Lexington and a key destination on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. This significant development marks Lexington as a pivotal gateway for bourbon enthusiasts. Our team at MWM played a role in securing tourism tax incentives for RD1, aiding in its journey to realization. RD1's home, The Commons Lex, is an exemplary infill development project set to transform Lexington. It repurposes land previously occupied by tobacco warehouses into a mixed-use space featuring offices, restaurants, and community areas. This approach revitalizes underused urban land and strengthens the city's fabric by integrating new, sustainable development within its historical context. The Commons and RD1 signal a forward-thinking step for Lexington, combining economic growth with mindful urban planning. This initiative enhances the city's appeal as a bourbon tourism destination and sets the tone for sustainable urban redevelopment! 🥃 #RD1 #thecommonslex #lexingtonky #mixedusedevelopment #taxincentives #bourbon #economicdevelopment #lexington #urbandesign #urbandevelopment #innovativedesign #citytransformation #bourbonwhiskey #communitybuilding #development

Imagine a downtown where interesting and beautiful places keep you wanting to walk further, to see more and experience all of the diverse activity that surrounds you; (kinda like the feeling you had the first time you visited City Museum). I envision a place where people would prefer to not have a car when living in or visiting downtown because of how it takes away from the vibrant experience and sense of adventure one gets just from being there. What if we rebuilt downtown to be a fully livable, self-sustaining community that has everything one needs for a happy and healthy life, (like groceries, parks, schools, jobs, etc.) all without ever needing to get into a car? But let's not stop there. What if we built a place that was truly invigorating... a place that daily inspires creativity and sparks the innovative and creative juices waiting to be unlocked in each of our brains? We can use lessons learned from neuroscience to inform how we create such a place that stimulates our neurons. We can even tap into the brain hacks that gaming and social media companies have used to design this place by creating a compulsion loop that: 1. triggers interest, 2. provokes action (i.e., walking one more block, checking out a store/event/piece of art, etc.), 3. provides a variable reward (things change and you never know what you will experience from one day to the next), and 4. entices an investment (time, money, talent, etc.) back into the community so that each resident or visitor can leave their finger print on the place - which then triggers the interest of the next person. Let's not make the mistake of thinking that we need to build back what once was, (i.e., a central business district where people come for their 9-5 and little else). Downtown hitting "rock bottom" is our chance to build something entirely new and different. It's time to think outside the box. Please share your thoughts in the comments below. Let's start a discussion!
"My partners and I have resisted recent pressure from our own employees to “move west” because we want to be part of the solution to some of the challenges of our region, in this case a vibrant downtown." 🖊 Steve Smith, CEO of Lawrence Group & New + Found ⤵

For me, one of the more interesting points of the article is that along with the new development at Hollywood Park, is the revitalization of Inglewood's downtown. Highlighting the need for an all encompassing plan so as to not detract from the City's legacy.

Alright Chicagoans. I have been talking about Chicago with many recently and a theme has come to mind - We are like the team you love - all the right players, the right facilities and what should be a championship team, but that same team is playing not to lose instead of to win. NYC is playing to win - win the future of urban living - taking congestion (large costs - productivity mainly) and turning it into an opportunity to invest in the future (funds go to public transit). Even places like ....wait...HOUSTON is having a vision! WTF. Where are the engaged Chicagoans who want to speak up about pedestrian streets, bike lanes, and quality of life measures? While this is a business forum more than politics (should stay that way), we really need the Chicago business community to start having some imagination on what this city can be. We have the infrastructure in place, we have the density, the cultural institutions, the lakefront and the food. Can't we start leveraging that foundation and look ahead? Shit, even a car centric place like Houston is starting to understand quality of life issues matter. https://lnkd.in/gyDFuyyU
