Meta reported strong revenues, says sees good evidence that AI is helping the company achieve better user growth, ad spend, and recommendations algos. But they are going to invest another USD35-40b. Google revenue was also strong. And along with Snap's - shows that the Main Street is advertising again. They have invested USD12b this quarter .... and is expected to continue to do so. But the main focus is 'AI, AI, AI'. "Cloud has been a bright spot for Google after it first became profitable early last year. Many young AI startups are founded by former Google employees, creating a strong pipeline of cloud clients." Okay, this is promising but far from assured. Just because people use your servers, and AI solutions to build the next big thing, does not mean that it will be the next big thing - or that the corporates would catch on. They are 'looking' but not really onboard. Better than nothing. "“For years, Google Cloud was usually a weak spot during Alphabet’s earnings calls,” said Lee Sustar, a principal analyst with Forrester. “These latest results show that Google Cloud’s AI offerings not only got enterprise customers to take another look, but spend some serious money.” Google Cloud has shown it is a strong unit on its own, without having to rely on revenue from the tech giant’s ad businesses to cover for its operating losses as it has in years past, Sustar added." So Meta reports results as good as Google's but fell 20%. People cite the costs; but Google is going to invest similar amounts. The only difference? Google decided to be conservative and almost let Microsoft run away with the GenAI market. They decided to then ditch the usual Google playbook and move fast and break things. Meta decided not to followed their (founder's) own rule book - and publicly mimicked Google's conservatism. But if I look at the 'AI' part of the results, I see more promise than actual delivery.

Although the tech world is facing a lot of uncertainty, 2024, in the words of Microsoft channel chief Nicole Dezen, is shaping up to be a year of "exponential innovation and growth for partners." "Today more than 13,000 partners are transacting with Microsoft Azure AI, serving more than 53,000 customers with generative AI capabilities alone," Dezen also said in her "State of the Partner Ecosystem 2024" missive. "Our partner ecosystem is rising to meet demand with a nearly 250 percent increase in the number of generative AI-related transacting partners in the past eight months."
