A great classification of the maturity of #GenerativeAI tools for professional workflows. Experimental phase: Models are in their early stages and are not yet ready for professional #workflows. Last year, almost every type of content was in this phase. Hybrid phase: Professional creatives can use GenAI in a combination of traditional and AI workflows. The tooling has improved enough to make a positive impact on their work, but it is not fully integrated with existing tools, requiring some extra effort to fit in. For instance, #Midjourney has reached a level of quality that professionals are now using in a multitude of ways in their work, but the tool is still challenging to access (aka. Discord) and is not integrated with any of the primary creative tools. Integrated phase: Represents the ideal state where GenAI tools are creating consistently high-quality outputs and seamlessly integrated into primary tools and workflows. For instance, teams already utilize code integration through GitHub Copilot, enabling easy use of GenAI features within their existing workflows. Adobe is leading the way by integrating their Generative AI, Firefly, directly into the core apps of the Adobe Suite such as Photoshop and Illustrator. While Figma has also started to explore this area with their Figjam AI, we are still eagerly anticipating interface generation with Figma. Am I the only one who feels slightly disappointed with the updates from Figma this year? Sure, the implementation of slides is great, so is the AI assisted designs that got demoed, but is Figma creating real value to its core users? There are a ton of great things that AI can do to bring more value to design teams ranging from personalisations, assisted onboarding and efficient knowledge dissemination of shared practices within the organisation using assistive and predictive AI. Yet, atleast this upgrade feels like an attempt to increase the TAM, and go behind product managers than their core audience - designers. Thoughts? #figma #config2024
