BG&E stands among over 1,100 organisations committed to reconciliation through the RAP program, a framework supporting the national reconciliation movement since 2006. Through our Reflect RAP, BG&E deepens its understanding and actively contributes to the five dimensions of reconciliation: race relations, equality and equity, institutional integrity, unity, and historical acceptance. By engaging in NAIDOC Week activities like cultural events and initiatives showcasing Indigenous art, BG&E honours First Nations people's heritage and fosters greater cultural understanding within our workplace and the broader community. This year’s NAIDOC Week will again celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with the theme of “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud”. ANZSOG acknowledges the importance of NAIDOC Week as a celebration which honours First Nations peoples and reminds us of the importance of our own journey to become a culturally competent organisation, making a positive contribution to First Nations policy and public administration. Held across Australia from 7-14 July 2024, this year’s NAIDOC Week recognises the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire as a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In NAIDOC week, and throughout the year, ANZSOG stands with the First Nations of Australia and supports aspirations for a just and equitable relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and for First Nations communities to have control over their own lives. Despite the progress we have made, there are still many structural and cultural changes that need to happen within public services to make this a reality, and we are proud that ANZSOG is working to help make those changes happen.

It's NAIDOC week, and this year's theme is Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud, and Proud. This years theme focuses on celebrating the cultural resilience of First Nations people, their profound connection to the land and traditions, and their pride in their First Nation identity. As Australia celebrates NAIDOC week this week, it is worth appreciating the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and also an opportunity to learn about one of the oldest continuous living cultures on Earth 🌍. 💎 New Governance Requirements for Indigenous Data: Recently, Australian Public Service agencies adopted the Framework for Governance of Indigenous Data. Co-designed with Indigenous partners, this framework ensures better access to government-held Indigenous data for First Nations Australians. It emphasizes collaboration, capability-building, and an inclusive data system. 💎 These governance requirements aim to contribute directly to ‘closing the gap’ by enhancing data accessibility, quality management and ethical use of indigenous data, and promoting inclusivity via ensured respectful collaboration and decision making for uplifting these communities. When your business participates in NAIDOC events, you can feel the incredible spiritual connection First Nation peoples' have with each other. The laughter and conversations you hear in the distance make you smile. Being around mob is like attending a big annual family gathering, where you bump into people you haven't seen for years. (even if it's only been a day or two) The music, dances, and celebrations are experiences that are hard to explain to non-First Nation people, but I think you know what I'm referring to. NAIDOC Week can sometimes prompt businesses to evaluate their engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. This reflection often reveals a different perspective than what the media portrays and fosters a desire for more of the amazing feeling that comes from being around mob. Businesses start to question: Are we meeting our goals and successfully implementing our Reconciliation Plan? Are we enhancing our Indigenous supply chain? Are we making purposeful and meaningful impacts? Can we do better? If you want to enhance your business’s cultural knowledge, connect more effectively with Indigenous Communities, and expand your Indigenous supply chain, there's only one way to do this. Put your thoughts into action!
