DYK? - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is one of the nation’s largest federal outdoor recreation providers, managing nearly 257,000 facilities across 43 states. Visitors to these sites can enjoy recreational activities like fishing, boating, hiking, camping and hunting. Surprisingly, unlike National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service sites, local USACE site managers cannot retain revenue from fees collected onsite. In other words, fees collected at a given site do not necessarily support the operations and maintenance of that site. The Lake Access Keeping Economies Strong Act (LAKES Act) has been introduced in Congress to correct this. The LAKES Act would allow the USACE to retain 80% of recreation fees collected onsite and includes other benefits that should improve access to fishing opportunities and infrastructure like boat ramps and other facilities. The Leopard is the most widespread of wild cat species, with their range extending across sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, South East Asia, Russia and China. Their ability to disperse across such a vast geographical range can be attributed to the species' high adaptability to different habitats and diverse prey bases. Leopards can be found in deserts, grasslands, dense rainforests, high montane regions and even large metropolitan cities, such as Bangalore and Mumbai. In India, the prey base of leopards is known to cover over 200 species. Unfortunately, leopards are not as easily spotted, particularly in parts of India with high lion and tiger populations. As leopards are far smaller cats than the other two, they tend to be more elusive, adapting to the fringes of protected areas.
