Excuse the language.. We have been horrified by abhorrent racist and Islamophobic attacks taken place over the last few days. We unequivocally condemn these acts of violence and are in deep solidarity with all Black and Global Majority communities across the UK. These acts of hatred are a direct result of years of divisive politics, using immigration as a political football and allowing rampant racism to go unchecked - Many of us have warned about this. These recent attacks highlight the urgent need for Black and Global Majority communities to remain vigilant and for our allies to join us in the collective fight against racism. In these trying times, we reaffirm our commitment to anti-racism and to supporting Black and Global Majority communities. We will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle systemic racism and to promote policies and practices that ensure Justice, Unity and Freedom for all.

A Clarion Call Against Anti-Blackness At this point, I issue a plea to every human being of goodwill. This is a clarion call, a desperate cry for help. The pervasive hatred against the Black race is beyond words. From the USA to China, North Africa to Europe, and the Middle East, the vile attacks on people who look like me are deeply disturbing. We live each day in fear, constantly looking over our shoulders. What exactly is our crime? What have we done to deserve such relentless attacks and dehumanization? Do you have any answers or solutions on how to tackle these issues? #France, where is your conscience? You thrive on the exploitation of our resources day in and day out, yet you dare to dehumanize us? European Union where are your fundamental principles? Let’s not forget the systemic extermination of my people and the forced sterilizations happening against Black people in America and elsewhere. Police brutality against Black people around the world must stop. How do we make this end? The insult and injustice of the nation never reconciling centuries of debt and restitution owed goes beyond the impairment and indignity accrued and compounded through the years, and further aggravated and exacerbated by any redress given to others. The one most egregious to me is The Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862, which issued reparations to thousands of white slave owners as property compensation for freed --- lost slaves. Even members of Lincoln’s administration were recipients. But this issue is so much more than the just accounting for generations of bondage, for it is an issue of rectifying the ongoing wrongs of ever-present ills, and dismantling the intentional infrastructure of socially engineered disparities.

Black faces in high places are not going to save us. Do not be fooled by the optics. What matters is not gender, skin color, race or age but ideas, values, principles and the degree of commitment to these principles. If it is the same policies in a different package, in different window dressing it is even worse. The critical question is when the power and fundamental values clash, what will your leader choose? You will not see me celebrate any person in a position of power—be it in government, celebrity, or other spheres—unless I witness genuine advocacy for the oppressed. I need to see real sacrifices for change, earnest support for Black lives, Palestinian lives, and all those suffering from state violence, war, and the intersecting forces of capitalism, colonialism, and racism. People get very uncomfortable when I talk about white people, especially if I talk about white women, and especially especially if I talk about white Zionist women, but I’ll do it anyway. EDI practitioners, you might want to look away, this is too “sticky” a topic for you (lol). I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: White women, when they weaponize their fragility, are some of the most dangerous creatures to walk on this planet. And we already know the kind of harm this weaponized “white fragility” causes Black, brown and Indigenous men and boys through the countless incidences where white women have called the police on them doing random benign things (walking, jogging, mowing their lawn etc) because of the supposed fear they feel. These “I’m so scared, please help me” calls are not benign though, they are some of the most dangerous weapons in North America and the west - they are more than dog whistles, they are whistles that call upon the kind of horrific police and mob brutality we have read about in books and now witness in 4K. These calls rely on colonial white supremacist narratives about the inherent criminality of Black and brown people - where a Black boy in a hoodie or a brown boy in a keffiyeh are automatically considered dangerous to the safety of an inherently fragile white woman, who by the way, is automatically and always DESERVING of protection - a privilege not afforded to Black/brown women. And so, these women feel completely justified and immune to criticism. But, of course, when they are called out on their racism, their “white tears” become shields for them.
