let tomorrow be a reminder that white america understands the importance and necessity of violent resistance—when it benefits them we even valorizes violent resistance when it aligns with white, revisionist historical narratives and interests reinforcing that violent resistance is not only necessary but also noble and foundational to the nation’s existence it also highlights a glaring double standard when contrasted with white americas sentiments towards violent resistance in Black liberation movements while white americans celebrate their own violent struggle for freedom, they position and reject resistance by Black americans and other marginalized groups as illegitimate and unjustified so just remember tomorrow is explicitly celebrating violent resistance it’s about colonists resorting to armed violence against british rule with one goal in mind: to achieve self-determination and independence so if youre rocking stars and stripes but condemn violent resistance to oppressive systems from Black folx…you’re not a patriot, you’re a hypocrite…and possibly even a white nationalist 🤷🏻♀️ image description: photos of white supremacists and white nationalists violently storming the capitol on 6 jan 2021

The Americans put up successful armed resistance against the British, with the substantial help of the Kingdoms of France and Spain, over what was initially a tax on tea and other items which was imposed against their consent. Imagine how that would have gone down if Britain was a police state keeping them in camps, asking them for permits to go about their business, keeping them for hours at checkpoints, arbitrarily detaining and torturing them, periodically "mowing the grass" to keep them in line, the Redcoats shooting off the kneecaps of people protesting all of that etc.

It is also important to understand that the discourse around the fight for liberation changes based on a couple of factors: Are there oil or natural resources in the land that can be exploited by American corporate interests? Is the indigenous population not majority Christian? Is the indigenous population not majority whyte? Are the oppressors’s population majority whyte? Are the oppressors’s views aligned with American corporate interests? Is the oppressors’s government friendly to American corporate interests? Depending on the answers to the above, one can either be a “freedom fighting revolutionary” or a “terrorist insurgent.” The more you fight against corporate power and greed, the less you are considered a revolutionary by corporate media in America and you are attacked as such.

All excellent points. January 6th was white supremacy on parade. Just like Charlottesville was. I look at those crowds and what I see is oceans of stupidity. I trust Black voters. I trust Latinx voters. I trust women voters. I trust LGBTQ+ voters. I am none of these things, but I am an ally. I don’t trust white voters. Because a significant percentage of them will choose white nationalism and Nazism over “wokeness.” And that is disgusting.

People do not know their history, and therefore do not understand the root cause of the systemic trauma we all inherited. None of us created the society we inherited from a 20th century of racialized segregationist laws, economic systems, public policies and private sector practices. But we all inherited a responsibility for the society we pass to future generations. So we must fully understand the racial dynamics in society today through an informed lens of historical context.
